Need Some Anwsers Please!

so i was talking to my dad about me starting in the awesome sport known as drifting (when i get my license--im 13 btw). and he was telling me that there is no way that you can have a daily driver and drift it as well, because sooner or later the suspension will reach a limit (im talking about coilovers, springs, bearings, tie rods...etc.) and break. so it's not safe, because if you take it to a track, then go down i-95 sooner or later something will break and you will get injured

basically, he's telling me i shouldn't have a daily/track car...is this true? give me your opinions, im just trying to learn young. thanks:)

Alot people daily they're drift cars its not a good idea but most people are forced to due to lack of funds. Right now my daily is my drifter but I got alot cars at my house so if my car breaks I still have my dad's two, mom's two or brother's two cars.

hmmm...i see, i was going to get a AE86, but my dad said that as my 1st car it shouldnt be, it should be like a hobby thing, you know like to have it in the garage as a project, workon it little by little. so i decided to get a coupe (240sx)...im sure alot of people will back me up on this choice ;)

240sx great platform to start on cheap parts and stock KAs run forever but they are getting raped for parts at junk yards lately. I picked an e30 325i for my first drift car:D most people will say "wtf why?" but I like them.

take his word for it. i was driving my drift car as a daily for 3 years, so much stuff breaks when you tack on thousands of miles. now that i only track it it seems to stay together a lil bit better.

hmmm...but i wana learn to drift badly! u have no idea, drifting is more important to me than anything (well, it's...breathing, family, drifting) it freaks me out sometimes.

but anyway, should i just not track it ALOT? like, still track it but not too much

i drift the hell out of my daily. I brake shit all the time tie rods, steering rack, motor, tranny, all my suspension. lol I made it through 5 events with a broken rack welded back together. The key thing its properly maintaining the car and changing out parts before they brake. I would suggest if you get a 240 change the suspension to atleast drop springs and good shocks and change youre tie rods to aftermarket ones and you should be good. Note if you weld your diff it sucks to daily but a open diff its sucks to drift. Best option is to get a lsd. Oh start saving money now cause drifting is expensive. If you have the ability to not drive the car to its limits at the track it will also hold up better. I make sure to let my car cool down as much as possible between runs but i also dont push my car as hard as some other people. Bottom line you drift you break its all part of the game. :bigthumbu
