im getting a 1988 RX-7 from a buddy of mine. he says that the engine will not idle and it over heats. when the first owner had it it over heated and he keep driving for 8 more miles before he stopped it. i was told that if the apex seals were replaced then the engine will run good again. so should i spend the money on the new seals or get a new engine because the guy said that replacing the seals might not help any.

i dont know bout rotarys but in regular internal combustion engines (pistons) over heating will blow our headgasket and warp the head so maybe in rotarys youll blow the seals and warp the housings
so just replacing seals may not fix anything if the housings are messed up

ok

yea thats what i was thinking. im just going to by another engine for it and later on down the road when i got more cash im going to swap the 13B for the 20B

with FCs you really gotta own 2 of em..cause youll always be working on one. i dont know too much about htem but my friend got his rebuilt after some problems and its been running fine...well the motor at least.. :bigthumbu

If you know nothing about Rotary just buy a motor. Overheating could be a number of things. Chances are it will cost more to rebuild then buy a motor. 20B in a FC = You must be rich! With that setup up you better become good friends with a great Rotary Mechanic.

yea

yea well i might not even put the 20B in cuz i know some guy that are work on finishing some custom motor mounts to put a Nissan SR20DET in the mazda so that what im waiting or going to do a V8 swap.

SR20 FTL....... LS1 so much easier, more power, and not really a great weight difference. hell you can get a 13B-T for 800 bucks or so why would you ever waste the money to make custom mounts and such for an SR20

yea

well how much does the kit cost for a V8 swap and the site i can go to so i can buy it

talk about overheating... thats all 3 rotors do unless you got the $$ for all the fab, not to mention custom subframe...o what a head-ache, just put an RE in it.

i hope you got a goood friend who has a shop...

p.s. just turning an fc into a good drifting platform is alot of work, throw in a unique, custom fab motor swap, ugh... my advice is dont do it. it would be nice, dont get me wrong....but yea...
