Newbie neew help building a drift ready 240sx

Newbie here lookin for some info. WEll first off i had a 240sx and everything but things went bad and had to sell, but now i got a new job and a little extra money and want to try it again. Im getting the s13 shell soon and already have a sr20det block in which im rebuilding but theres the deal i can do all the work myself but since im new to this do you really need a lot of power to enter in a competion or what are the specs like requirements in which i need to enter in a competion for exaple what point rollcage, how much power i can have for the engine and such. I know i cant just jump in a compition yet need to do alot of test runs but i just want to have everything ready for when i enter in a competion i just dont know all the requirements, so if you dont mind helping me with this problem send me sum advice or websites for competion requirements thanks...

wow.. there's this thing called punctuation. When you use it correctly, your posts are a lot nicer to read.

Also, all of your questions can be answered simply by searching. And unless you're ready to tandem, I wouldn't worry about any sort of "Competion" which is correctly spelled "competition."

Just get your car running, learn to drive, and then worry about everything else when you're good enough to worry about it.

SEARCH IS YOUR BEST FRIEND

Before you even consider competition, learn to drift at skidpads and similar events. It would suck to build an awesome machine just to fok it up on your first judged event because of lacking on the seat time.

No, you don't need lots of power. There's some arguments here and there, but most agree that a good suspension and LSD combo will suffice to get started. Power can be bought, skill can only be acquired through practice.

Different events require different things, like I said, SEARCH. The first page has events of all types with requirement lists so you can get an idea.

Yea i see what you mean, but im rebuilding now and well i guess the sr20det is enough power alone maybe some little upgrades. The suspension is my biggest worry right now just deciding what to go with. :confused: Really im not thinkin about any competitions right like you said i need practice and the reason i'm wanting to rebuild it up now is just to get the hang of it so its not different when i decide to enter in a competition.Im not talking about top dollar parts just the right parts to get me ready and the feel of it. And the problem with the pratice part is i live in Polk County "LAME" and there really isnt no place to practice not at all without the cops being called. I do got some spots but it really is not that good to get me ready, but i really dont need a good spot just my ebraking and clutch skill to pratice on. But thanks it will hopefully be done soon, and i can start practicing just give me a couple of months and you will be seeing me on the tracks no bs

Competitions= last thing that should be on your mind.

Don't "build up" your car asap as a noob.

I learned in a bone stock s13 (KA) and now drive a hatch with sr20,coils,welded diff, fully gutted etc. And I drive it fine. The one thing that would take "getting used to" is your cars reaction after upgrading suspension.(should be the very first thing on your list) once u have control over your car completely and know exactly how it's going to react, then you should worry about power as your skills get better. Don't jump into the game expecting to enter competitions left and right. It's gonna take a while for your skills to get to tht level of control. Build ur car somewhat basic at the moment don't go all out and have some built up drift machine if your still learning bc all you will do is crash it and lose out big time. Take it one step at a time and good luck.

kid doesnt even have a car and hes already preping the competition rollcage

the less shit you have on your car while learning = the less shit you are gonna have to replace. power is no good unless you know how to control it.

get the car running/rolling. get to events, make fool of yourself for about 3-4 events, listen to EVERYTHING people tell you, practice, practice, and practice. when you start outdriving your car thats when you start upgrading

this guy doesnt know what hes talking about... get a supercharged V8, coils, a cage, and NOS - go out a hit up the banks @ desoto... best way to learn

Remember Rip the E-brake son and power over @ the same time
 
From 1 noob to the next

Im still a newbie at this only 1 event under my belt. And i ask questions all the time but from what im told

diff+coils>power-lack of skill

Im in a sohc KA you cant talk to me about not having enough power and i still get it sideways correction my friends who have many events under there belt still get it sideways. I am still learning a lot. I try to make it to all the events and get as much ride along experience as i can.

from 1 noob to the next find out about ppl who live in your area and ask what events the go to and see if they can give a ride along. I am sure most of them will gladly say yes and even give you pointers right there on the spot

Basically.

I don't see anything wrong with starting with a cage. 240's are pretty damn old now so why the hell not stiffen the chassis while increasing safety?

Power is subjective. Some people think a stock SR is "powerful" and learning with one sets you back. I think that's retarded. In Japan, if you have an s-chassis you more than likely have an SR and depending on the SR/bolt-ons, close to 300whp. They don't seem to have trouble learning either.

If you're planning on competing in any one serious, they'll have rulebooks available on their site so download one and start reading.
 
yea thanks for the advice, im just goin to slap on some ebay and craigslist parts for now and i got a dude thats getting me a deal for as many used tires as i want so after shes done practice and more practice.And that ride along part i know a few people but they dont really hit up the track as much as i want to go so i guess start heading to events and meeting sum cool people, Any of yall have any good events you go to around the polk county area like orlando or sumthing let me know please and thank you again for the advice:bigthumbu
 
I actually wouldn't recommend ebay parts. Why spend money on shit you would just have to replace again later? Get decent parts the first time around. It will same you time and money in the long run. Start with coilovers (like megan streets or something) and either a welded diff or a type of lsd. and just practice with that. Trust me, you will learn a lot, then you can look into buying other things

Yea that is tru in the long run it will cost me more cause you dont know what you are buyin. and just waiting for skinny d to hit me back up cause he gots a shell with welded diff. so just finsh putting the engine together and drop it in there hopyfully its a good price not to high for shell his selling

I would say to buy mine once I swap everything over but it's already pre-sold
