Oil type and weight?

I've been using Valvoline VR-1 Racing Synthetic 20-50w. It has been working great but something tells me I may need to use a thicker weight oil. So heres my question.

What oil brand and weight can I run that will give me full pretection at the track, but isn't so viscous that driving the car on the way to the track won't hurt anything?

Any tips are great.:bigthumbu

if you want to read then here you go. http://www.supramania.com/aehaas/

Thicker oil stays together better at higher temps than thinner oil. However at normal operating temp, you cant beat the factory recommended viscosity. many factors determine oil viscosity recommendations including bearing clearances.

Remember higher oil pressure does not mean better oil flow. if you have good results with the 20w-50 stick with it. i use 10w-30 synthetic in my jz

^yup but under direct track conditons 10-40 or even 20-50 can be good. but bad for cold start protection and low temp situations. I would choose 10-50 if i could find it affordable.

I change the oil before and after an event. So I guess what I should have asked was what weight should I run for everyday, and what should I run for the track?

i run castrol 10-40w works good for my ka, sometimes with a dash of mystery oil to keep the lifters from sticking :bigthumbu

This is just an oppinion thread keep useing that 20-50 I use the same you don't daily your car so it dosent matter as much for cold start just let it warm a bit before going out. Running a cold enging hard will cause premature bearing failure anyway

iwork at jiffy lube so 20w50 is pretty thick. if you want thicker ill go with a high milage
20w50. its thicker than any other 20w50 especially synthetic.

30wRACE RedLine is what I have in the LS1

10w30 Mobil1 I ran in the SR for the 4 years and changed it every 4 events or less. never daily drove her though.

I ran nothing but 20w50 advanced auto parts oil in my 400whp sr motor setup.
I've ran nothing but 15w-40 non synthetic rotella in my ls1 car.

Y'all need to stop being stupid about oil.

I changed my sr oil like once every 5k/every 4th event, and my bearing looked perfect!!!!

I hate hearin people trip about oil.

Just chill and drift rave abunch.
I've changed the oil in my ls1 car twice and the filter once. I've done 10 events on it.

What's up.
