Ok, Drifter's lets be serious with our cars....

From what I see, there's too much internal conflict in this forum. I'd like to clarify myself as a supporter, since I don't really have any drifting ambitions -- I first attended the 6/5/05 event just for some track time and some ''innocent'' fun which then engulfed me into this forum which I support.

But again, if we are to grow, I honestly believe we should stop mentioning what's bad and just work on it. It does nothing to say "nobody drifts", "they / we all suck", or even "too many noobs"; if thats the problem then I would suggest making an effort to fix it. If nobody drifts, then call up your friends and attend the next meet, or event. If a given amount of people suck, watch a few videos, share some knowledge, have a few practice runs. If there's to many noobs, take one for the team and befriend one; teach him a few things, and let him say "pwned" a few times. I wholeheartedly believe that actions speak louder than words, and that noone should whine or complain about something they're not willing to fix.

That being said, perhaps it is time for those who are ambitious to step up to bat -- of course though, it has to be within reason. I'm sure there are some who have compromises and priorities to worry about, and others who are a bit more casual about the sport.

And as far as dressing up the cars, I think thats up to the driver himself. You can enchance your car's look while keeping it functional; unlike the alleged ricers who sport often shoddy-quality bodywork, often without any horsepower to even render the aftermarket body parts aerodynamic. I feel the same way towards wings and spoilers as well. Personally, I've never been crazy about graphics, because personally, I don't like to attract too much attention, or feel like I'm gloating. That's just how I see it though. Of course, though, for sponsorships and public affairs, graphics and decals can make being noticed far easier than if you perhaps do not. Thats how I feel about this topic, and I hope I contributed a worthwhile post. I felt a bit awkward since I think I'm in such a liberal positon in this forum.

i live in Naples. if i live on the east coast i would be there every friday but sorry i cant go and burn $40 in gas on a friday night. then burn $20 saturday afternoon at a real drift meet (mine) oh thats right i did make it too alot of sfl drift meets. so did plenty other people. on a track

Ok the meets on this forum were never intended to be lets get together and go drifting meets, they are simply a get together of people who like to drift if they go out sliding later then they do but thats on their own accord and is not supported by the forum , But what you dont understand is this forum cannot and will not support illegal street drifting. The Official SFL meets there is no drifting involved as we have had problems in the past with cops showing up out of nowhere and I wonder how they found out. You post stuff like that on the internet and your just asking to get pwned.

Part of this forums purpose is to promote a positive public image of the sport and not just a bunch of punks sliding through industrial parks and on puplic streets. This positive image of responible people who only slide in a legal venue. Now Im not telling everyone that if you street drift that we should kick you off the forum but thats one thing that we have been trying to accomplish.

Now however you word your "meet" that you had it was still illegal and therefore would not have been supported by the forum simple as that.

Ps I dont go to the meets down there in miami because I live even father away than you do It would be a 4 hour drive down just for me to go to one. But I would go to an event if they held one because I myself dont see the point of going to a meet.

and stop knocking ovals josh seat time is seat time

why doesnt anyone use it?

i wouldnt drive 5hrs to drive 4laps of a X... i can do that here for free and if i get a ticket guess what?! it's the same price as event fee but im saving on gas and tolls and food and room if i decide to stay there so my car doesnt blow up driving 200miles beating the **** out of it and then driving another 200miles!!!

well well well...its like the story thats told and passed in a circle...my how it changes....

...listen, for those of you who desided to bash my car because ''o, its all pretty, but he doesnt drive it,'' nice... i drive the hell outta my car which is why i only put top grade or near top grade parts on it so i know it can withstand the torture.... and for those who suffer in reading comprehension...i clearly stated that i wrote this as a motivational post to attempt to inpire people...i did not post this so that people can read it an purely talk s***...wheres the point in that..im not here for that, nor did i sign up for this forum to bad mouth anyone here...i dont degrade anyone driving on here although there are sum that arent very good at all....im not here for that either! .im a team player and for those who know me know that about me.......

..ok and for the comment about you having all these expences...umm, yea, i dont pay RENT, i pay a freakin mortgage..car payment, day care, insurance, water, fpl, HOA, food, gas, and so on, i raise a family...(me, wife, 4 year old, and new born).... so dont talk like al i do is drop paychecks on a freaking car..i strive, i save and i work my a$$ off for this car.... once again done make assumptions regarding other people and their skills or what their car looks like because it will only make an a$$ of yourself.

once again to reiterrate: i just want to see guys take it up to the next level...just to gain more attention here in FL... blow it outta context if you wish... all you do is show eveyone else on here your inability to be a team player....just that simple.

props to illphantasm, hes got the right idea
thanks. I drive backwards but I don't think that means that I have nothing worthwhile to say.

--I don't think we can move forward as a group if we're not even a group to begin with. I notice a lot of people don't seem to be thinking out of the box as to the fact that we do a lot of things for a certain reason -- such as illegal drifting. It's obvious that people illegally drift due to the lack of sanctioned areas to do it in, as well as the dynamic course our local streets provide, as well as the apparent reason that street drifting is taboo on the forum because of police harassment.
Something I just realized is that as a group we're probably gonna have think on a bigger scale to cooperate and focus on bigger and better goals than to bicker. I'm thinking if we want to up our game as Three50Zee says, we'll have to start by being a bit more open-minded and setting our eyes on the prize. Keep street drifting to your friends and speak of sites you think may be potential event areas; enforce the no-street drifting idea and try to have more grassroots events. I think this is the factor that will decide whether the drifters in this forum will advance or just stay kaput --- working together as a team and everyone doing their part to constructively help SFLDrifters make a stand in South Florida, let alone the US.

Why do you guys want drifting to be popular? i for one do not want more attention because i like street drifting. i dont have the time or money to go to events so my seat time is in the few industrial areas near my house. if there was an event close by and i wasn't at school and could get off work, i would probably go but even then i'd still street drift. there's something magical about it. It makes you feel all fuzzy inside.

I thought the purpose of the forum was for the support of drifters and not to popularize the sport. however I would like to see individuals on this forum succeed and get fd licenses but as for the entire sfl drift scene growing i think it is highly overrated.

I know you guys have seen option videos and the coolest parts are the street drifting. How much cooler would it be for sfl to be sick underground drifting where other "real drifters" from other area hear about us through the grape vine and are like "damn, sfl has some sick drifters". Not some stickered up red tire smoking bling bling car that everyone and their 15 year old brother (who like drifting because it's popular or like the look of drift cars) knows about. That's just my $.02.

^^^ Hell yeah I cant wait till that starts happening

Heh... we already have a surge of 240s comming into the junkyards that look like they have been drifted into solid objects.. (poles, walls, etc..) it's only a matter of time..

level 10 street drift mage. powned you all.

illphantasm, I hope your words can actually serve as motivation to others start organizing themselves and move foward to promote the SFL drifting community.

People here need to stop complaining so much and start promoting more.

By the way... people also need to learn that you can report posts to moderators and/or private message someone who is starting problems in the forum. Stop being childish and fueling the fire in a thread. This goes to at least 3 of you in this thread.

illphantasm as president! preach on brothaaa

Thanks fellas, I really appreciate that. Though I run the risk of being completely overlooked / ignored, my thoughts won't be read unless I post them, so I still do so. 2 posts deep, it still appears to me that the bickering still continues, so I'm gonna be a bit touchy and make an example or two. Do not take it personal if I refer to your post. I'm just hoping to reach new ground with some of you, that's all. This will be my last attempt anyway, so I hope I do make a stand of some sort.

Why do you guys want drifting to be popular?...I thought the purpose of the forum was for the support of drifters and not to popularize the sport...
Indeed it is for the support of drifters. You'll notice that there are many events and many prevalent members help each other out actively by buying, selling, advising, and even in low-key ways by sharing experiences and discussing issues (and sharing a vid or two, etc, etc). Not everyone in this forum actually wants drifitng to be popular, but realize that there are several hundreds of us in this forum, and though we all have some form of interest in drifting, I know that each one of us has a different goal or ambition with drifting. Even the ones that aim for Formula D -- some strive to see how far they can reach, while others may just want the publicity. Once again, I feel if that fact is acknowledged, the community as a whole will flourish.

I know you guys have seen option videos and the coolest parts are the street drifting. How much cooler would it be for sfl to be sick underground drifting... ...That's just my $.02.
Remember, that's your opinion. There's several hundreds of us here. Some will agree with you, and some will disagree with you. Some of us may still be oblivious to it, but I'll have no problem expressing the belief that to be heard, one must listen. We all may have opinions on drifting, but unless you demonstrate an understanding for other opinions, don't expect yours to be heard. This goes for street drifting, once more. Some love it, others hate it, and some are indifferent to it, but there are reasons many people seem to be against it. If you're for it, you should respect the fact that some people may not see it in your light, let alone have the privilege to.
--Realize that what you individuals think may, or may not be right at all. That goes to everyone, including me, although I try to speak as unbiased and as open-minded as possible.
So that being said, once again, I'm gonna hope that it's understood that we all need to open up if we want to be serious with our cars, let alone the forum. We all have different goals, and one way we can all benefit (Formula D prospect or not) is by understanding that this community is as diverse as can be as far as individuals and goals alike. In my opinion, I think if that's acknowledged, this forum, as well as the prevalent drifters will definitely start going places.

illphantasm are you Swiss?

No. I have my opinions. But I know other opinions exist. So I respect and address them. And I'm being serious, so I don't appreciate that, as humorous as you were.
