Ok this is annoying, coolant problem.

Ok, so I rebuilt my sr20 a few months ago after buying it as a rod knocked block in pieces. I put the break in miles on the car, and everything was fine. For the next 2 months the car ran and drove fine, didn't give me one fucking problem.

But then, a few weeks ago I started having an over heating issue. If I drive the car normal, its fine but if I drive it hard it pushes the coolant out of the radiator.

So I figured I popped the headgasket, so i did tests to see if that was true.

I did a block test, to test for cracked head, block, blown headgasket but it came up as none.
I did a radiator pressure test, it held pressure fine slowly bleeding off as it should
I did a radiator cap pressure test, held 19psi/1.3 bar like the car is rated for.

I pulled the motor out of the car to replace some stuff, and while it was out I found a leaking coolant feed line for the turbo. So I replaced the line with a SS braided line, with a teflon braided whip hose. No more leaking from the hose, so I figured hey that fixed my issue.

Well I drove the car all day, when it was kind of chilly out. Car didn't give me one issue, but we waiting till later in the day and I started to test it by driving hard. Same fucking result, water gushing out of my over flow.

I am so fucking sick of this shit, so I figured I would ask for someone elses help.

sounds like a slight headgasket but only under boost have had it happen many times only seeps under heavy load high boost

did u do a cumbustion leak test on rad...
nissan motors like to have this issue.....
if u did then its just not bled proper..ie like if heater core is connected....

reading is a good skill to use.

System is bled properly.

i had the same prob and i put a bad ass fan and it fixed
what fan(s) are you running

I am running 2 12" hayden puller fans.

Hey bro, I like how you completely disregarded what bill said... I'm like 99% positive that bill is right.

I did not disregard it, 7psi of boost is not going to push over with the 155+psi of constant pressure the cylinder sees.

I also completed the block test after the car was warmed up, and did a few high rpm pulls.

you need to get a coolant system tester that uses dye to test for exhaust gases. And to say 7 psi of boost over the normal compression not being enough boost to cause the gasket to leak is ludacris

Do you know how to read bro?

A coolant system tester is called a block test, and I completed one. I said that in my original post.

if im not mistaken the 155+psi of pressure you are referring to is only from a static compression test without combustion? dynamic compression at peak torque WITH combustion is way way way more, i should be able to do the math to figure exactly what cylinder pressure would be if need be. and 7psi with stock turbo roughly equates to 1.5 times the cylinder pressure over a non turbo sr20 since it is 1.5times the power. it is not as simple as adding 7+155 and saying that 7psi is insignificant. inlet pressure and cylinder pressures are two different things.

if u did a block test and no fail...
a climbing issue with the temp is only a few poss....
if u did test it then air is getting out of water sys
or combustion is getting in or
water pump isnt pushing enough...
or air pocket..
i run 15psi all day and never pass 180degrees.
no thermo stat....s14 waterpump..ka rad...
no probs...

i normally don't peep in, but fuck it.

i had a similar problem with my first sr, i could drive from miami to jacksonville and not hit a peep of trouble but do a pull and clear 210 degree from a single gear pull.

my problem was head gasket failure in between cylinder to coolant wall. the way you describe it, i would almost swear the same result.

but +1 on the combustion results, it's not a +/- question to get your answer. those numbers should be much higher

Just replaced the head gasket a few nights ago, car still reacts the same.

Coolant system is bled, no clue whats going on now.

Well I feel like a retard, new radiator...

problem went away, I guess the seal on the top of the radiator wasnt sealing.
