SO YES<> my ka still runs. this is the funny part....
my ka chain rattle was getting way too loud, so i was like WDF> and i didnt have another valve cover gasket. so i never changed it. then today i told my self. Fuhk it!!! ima take the cover off. and if my gasket brakes. ill put liquid gasket.
so i took it off.....
and then i saw the little SHIT guide ... so i took my rachet and i went to take the screws off when i noticed... the shit was COMPLETELLY broken off and it was just magically sitting there and had been grinding for quite a while......
i was like o_O wow.
ive seen the WORST outcome out of this. and is not pretty.
I THANK THE NISSAN GOD> for saving my ka...!!!!!

lol

alll of you NOOBS!!! that just got a ka 240. GO TAKE YO SHIT OFF!!!! NOW>

I hope you replaced it. If not you could jump a tooth.

2 Reatrds points in this thead.

1) Telling people to remove that guide.
2) Liquid Gasket to fix a leaky valve cover gasket.

OK>? i really confused cus i tought i was right....
then OLDTIMER Z4k came and SLAPED ME> lol

so....
whats the deal?

i've been changing timing chain tensioners for about 5 years.no one should own a 240 (ka) without knowing about the infamous timing chain tensioner.and if your gonna do something do it right.a valve cover gasket cost less than 30.and a timing chain tensioner cost under 60.replace both the right way.and btw good looking out and telling people about the timing chain tensioner there are people getting into the scene everyday who don't know about it.they might be noobs, but we all got to start somewhere. :bigthumbu

I hope you replaced it. If not you could jump a tooth.
Really? I thought you could remove the upper guide w/o worrying about the chain jumping... If the tensioner is functioning properly I would think that it would be very hard to jump a tooth. Any first hand experiance with this or is it just "common knowledge"?

yeah i just replace the timing tensioner and remove the top chain guide. if the chain tensioner is good and the chain isnt super streched you will not jump timing!!!!!

That's what I thought. I have talked to a couple other guys running sr's w/o the upper timing chain w/ no problems. when i pulled my head the timing chain was so tight it seemed impossible that it would be able to jump timing. When I re-assembled with a new timing chain kit I left the upper guide off as many that I spoke to said it was not neccessary. The new timing chain tensioner also keeps teh chain super tight even w/o oil pressure so I figured it was not required to run the upper guide. Just wanted to double check as my engine is going back in this weekend :bigthumbu

ive never taken the top chain guide off on the sr, but i know nissan has a tsb out on the ka's top guide chain

^BINGO i did both about a year ago runs SUPER quiet...ok now zak was right about the gasket for the valve cover dont be cheap get a OEM gasket there 20 bucks and less of a mess to install.

I heard of removing the upper side guide. But as far as the top most never heard it. My First 240 jumped 2 teeth. That guide was not there so I blamed that. Giving the sprockets were 140xxx miles worn. Which is recommended to replace when doing a chain service. Maybe it jumped somewhere else along the lines.

well I have no timing chain noise what so ever , should I still be converned? I figured once I started hearing that annoying rattle I could do that work, but if its nec.. I might just go ahead and do it now.

aye i could help u dudes out on some of the maintainance stuff like gaskets or w/e with the discount i get were i work...
so holla if ya need suttin
