Open diff 360 to the Right > Left

Driver
In all the rain that fell yesterday me and a friend felt like ripping the streets of boca...at one point i drove my friend's SR5 (open diff) and in a parking lot i tried doing 360 drifts to the left and the only way to do them is to start them w/ the e-brake wether as doing them to the right works as if the car had lsd

anybody care to explain?

its a common thing for open diff cars to able to drift better in one direction than the other, its useally because of the weight distribution, since the car is heavier on one side than the other because of the driver.

did you try clutch kicking to initiate it?

yeah, clutch kikin still understeers his car that's why i pick up some speed and e-brake it...after that its fun....but going to the right, a lil clutch kik on 2nd gear gets you sideways.

weight distribution is probably not the case unless the car's fatter on one side...both front seats were occupied by nearly the same weight. Reading somehwhere on this forum someone said that open diffs tend to send more power to the right wheel...myth?

explanations?

AE86's are infamous for being heavier on the driver side than the passenger side. GTS at least because the steering-column, clutch and brake master cylinders, exhaust manifold, battery, driver, at least thats why all AE86's have the typical driver-side lean when you loer the car. But if you have both a driver and passenger, plus it was an SR5 than it wouldn't really apply. And not all open diff's power only the right wheel. My S13's would lay the driver side stripe on a peel out.

umm throttle control maybe?

if you over power or turn the wheel too much you can get unsatisfactory results w\ the open diff.

im a n00b thats why I love it so e-brake is for pro's thats why i cant do it <_>

ebrake for doing donuts??? never tried that one before

all you gotta do is a little power over in 2nd like 3k RPM and then just moderate the throttle and dont go more than 3/4ths rotation on the wheel and the open diff will be like omg wtf hax am i lsd now?!?! oh w0wz ilu 143 <3

You can initate a donut with the e-brake (similiar to the 360s in The Drift Bible) but after that its just throttle control and steering inputs. Also don't forget to use low-grip tires, the higher the treadwear the better in the 86s, even more with the SR5. Its a pain to do nice 360s or drifts with a stock engine 86 and higher or even ok grip tires.

Watching the DRIFT BIBLE does NOT make you a better drifter. EATING

MAKES YOU A BETTER DRIFTER!

Plus Dan is rightstab the throttle in 2nd to initiate and throttle control is the way to go. anywhere form BIG to small!

Drift bible is great for learning japanese!

idk what to say, starting the doughnut to the right i can do just like you guys say, 1st > 2nd + a bit of throttle = voila w/ throttle ctrl and steering, but to the left is simply ****ed up. understeer nomarawhuuUAAT unless you jank that e-brake

i can do donuts fine in open diff whichever way without clutch kicking

clutch kick is for n00bs
i can almost bet you've never been in a 50whp'd car :D

I agree with Dan. I've done countless 2nd geat donuts in open diffs and it's just a matter of throttle control vs counter-steering. It's harder than an LSD but it's definetly doable.

Considering I use to drift a AE86 SR5 that couldn't rev pass 4k I guess you're right

I never really said The Drift Bible will make you a better drifter it will give you a general idea of what to do, It's a good video to watch if your totally new to drifting. I was trying to show an example of how you can start doing donuts with the e-brake. Its harder to explain things when you have to read it. In person you would know what I mean. I was agreeing with you, donuts are all throttle inputs and steering inputs to see how wide or how tight you want your 360s.

Why are we arguing about donuts? I did donuts on my AE86 SR5: open diff and probably 45WHP due to the 3rd piston having no compression, maybe the tokico shocks and lowering springs helped to kill the roll alittle now that I think about it. But either way it spun both left and right, maybe that sides axle is beginning to Toast LOL And I can initiate donuts with e-brake also, but aclutch kick or maybe a little bit of weight transfer start to the right then downshift and counter it should at least get some slip going or maybe the roll from theSR% will cause it to flip over.
