opinion on sportmax 962

In the end, its how much of a fan boy do you want to look like because everyone rocks SportMax, just like Rotas.

My only thing is.... if you do rock popular cheapo wheels, make sure you rock the proper offset and tires to make it as flush as possible.

one question. why are sportmax "cheapo" wheels. isn't the purpose of a wheel to maintain a tire inflated so that it could be ridin on by a vehicle...?. when it comes to drifting all you need if some wheels with tires. sportmax wheels, i would admit, are pretty popular and many people have them but wheels are wheels. as long as it could hold a tire in place than your good to go. am i right or wrong. people even drift on steelies but when it comes to sportmax than every one begins to call them cheap wheels. they may not be expensive wheels. that i would admit but for the price they go for they do look good and they do do what wheels are supposed to do.. there are many wheels that run over 1,000$ but dont look as good as sportmax 962.
the only disadvantage to 962 are that they are a bit heavy but thats it. they look good and are very strong.

if there is a detail that i overlooked please let me know. i would like to know why sportmax are known as "cheapo" wheels.

^ Seen it happen. Not pretty.

Anyhow, I feel that wheels need to show your personal style. Sure, an upgrade over stock is good, but if you want to do it right, keep an eye out for a good deal on something better.

^^^just like rota d2's(check zilvia) its not that they are cheapo, but everyone knows they are cheap, and people still try there hardest to show them off. sometimes it looks good but many times it doesn't. they are heavy for the sizes, and dont provide any better offsets than the 18's can offer, yeah they come in 19's but meh. in my own opinion sportmax lack something, they are bland from the 5 spoke 962 to the knockoff watanabe in the form of the sportmaxx 002.
again if thats all your bank account can afford then by all means go for it. but if you notice the best looking wheels are usually the priciest and many times the lightest and in any sport you want performance. and to use product brands that are proven. and (to me) they should look good not bland, not sportmaxx

Wheels nowadays represent the drifter's style.

rwdrift said this in another thread but i think it can apply here too

style comes in last when it comes to wheels for me..and i think that speaks for its self im very what we call around here derka! if it works use it .. if it dont get something else...main prioritys when choosing a wheel for me is width and offset.. wheels can do alot more than just make your car look cool or hold a tire.. they can increase the vehicle track.. having that flush look tells me that his tires are further out than the stock ones were and that makes for better handling..to most of you that flush look says "baller"
streched tires look great but provide way more than just looks
putting a 7 inch wide tire on a 8 inch rim increases sidewall stiffness quickening turn in and raising effective spring rate lots more stuff

u aske for opinions and u get mad at erick....tisk tisk.......sportmax's are so 2005......and for prrof...check the date on the pic...then the front rims...wat was i thinking ::kicks own nuts::

did your wheels rub on the fender?

they are considered "cheapo" wheels because they are cheap. period.

now if you like the wheels then go for them. but there are other things to consider. weight is a big issue, especially when drifting and you rely on torque. now when it comes to wheels, you have rotational mass. wheels are what gets your car rolling. for every pound of weight you shave off your wheels, its equivalent to losing 10 pounds of weight somewhere else on your car. eg. if you get wheels that are each 5 pounds lighter than stock, thats 20 pounds you save, x 10 = 200. so its like you just shaved 200 pounds of weight off your car. and obviously weight is important in this sport which is why you see so many people with gutted interiors, carbon fiber parts, etc etc.

now personally i do own sportmax 002s. i liked the wheels and thats all my budget could afford. i still have to weigh those and then weigh my other wheels and see which ones are lighter so i can decide which to use for drifting. for now the sportmax are my daily wheels.
if you like it then go for it, but if your not in a rush and youre serious into drifting then i would save up for some lighter wheels. i think it was import tuner or one of those magazines that had an article on lightest wheels at this years SEMA which you may check into and find useful. but be forewarned, good constructed, light wheels will cost you.

hope that helps you a bit

Bang for the buck i can roll a tyre off it.s bead and be more sad about the $130 lost in rubber the the 98 dollar rim..... plus i get them changed so many times my nice rims would get beat up after awhile don't get me wrong i have a set of advans and some 5zigen heinfeild mesh that are my dress up rims but just like the shoes on my feet I worry less about the mud if i'm in my work shoes.... you know what I mean I feel I push harder when I have less to loose but when I wanna look my best I pull out the shinny wides i'm not baller enough to rock 1000 rims off track regards my 2cents Travis
