Parkour - anyone here trains?

So...

I stopped skateboarding like 3 years ago and miss the night time downtown sessions and shit. I've been doing parkour, although not as consistently as I would like. The friend I trained with moved to Boston last year, so I'll train in FIU or whatever at 2 am and shit's raw but Im looking for other people to train with. Training is harder when you are alone because you have no one to rely on, but training with people better than you pushes you to improve and thats what I want.

So anyone here trains pk? I searched and found another thread but it was old. I'm looking for people to train with and make use of my summer.

And parkour or free running...I'm down with either. I prefer PK to tricking but everything's good and useful in my opinion

damn bro..i used t do it with some buddies of mine...mad fun...but then baseball season came around and so did scholarships so i had to stop...but gl man stay safe

ive seen vids of this shit it looks fun to do

Its fun as hell. The feeling of freedom you get from it is the best part. I haven't felt that with any other thing I've tried or done. It gets you fit, and teaches you about balance, coordination, endurance. And it makes your balls grow too

Why stop? You train parkour, then you can run up the wall and catch that homerun like it was nothing. Imagine the ladies :bigthumbu Nah in all seriousness, you don't have to be backflipping off buildings yamakasi style and shit. Just learning proper vaults and having speed and good style is challenging and fun and you don't have to break no bones

I'm down, but I haven't really had experience doing the real thing.

No problem the hardest part is just actually getting off your ass the 1st time and doing it. You try it, and see if its for you or not. You don't start off by doing roof gaps just training technical movements and having fun. If anything I'm gonna be training tomorrow morning with a friend all over downtown and brickle

Dvinsk Clan, my o.g inspiration and still one of the best free running vids floating around the net. If this looks like fun to you then you know whats up

my friends were into that in HS. They'd hit up the metro rail stations, Bayside, Downtown.. can't remember all the places. I was so sick of it lol, I didn't think anyone else was into it.

hell yeah free runnings awesome especially when your just running around and you bust your ass in front of a crowd attempting to do a backflip of the wall

Is catalyst like a forum? Im not in any pk or free running forums...they're evil lol.

Thats why you don't show off:p

I just skateboard... :/

I used to love skateboarding to death but PK is something else. You don't need anything except your own body and that gives you a lot more freedom. You can be in the middle of a forest or visiting ancient Mayan ruins, you see an opening, and you fly. Freedom.

Besides I got sick with all the fashion/drama/rockstar bullshit in skateboarding. Baker, who did the biggest stairs, who did what switch, who owned a spot, who got wasted and drunk, etc etc. At least PK isn't on that level yet, and even if it gets popular to the point where there are contests (which would actually suck) I don't think it would ever be the american idol skateboarding is today. It seems its just a different mentality.

So just jump from things or flips and stuff?

No. Flipping is more Free Running. You do flips, tricks, etc. Parkour is about the most efficient/fastest/smoothest way of getting from point A to point B. Think of an army obstacle course and what would be the fastest way of clearing it. Sometimes that does involve jumping off things. Strictly speaking there are no "tricks" in parkour, but both disciplines are very similar and what you learn in one will help in the other.

But I really don't care. Both are valid and useful in their own way and labeling things just takes away from them. I focus more on PK than free running but I'll do whatever feels like fun at the moment. Anything you learn is useful, and jumping off things is fun. It makes you face your fears and strengthens your body. Like I said its about the freedom of movement.
