PLEASE.. can someone diagnose this

i bought this car a few weeks ago, and a week later, it was doing this.... It goes away after a while. but comes back, but not as loud. im using 20w-50 from redline.... dont know what oil was in it when i got it. alot of people tell me its the lifters, and others tell me its a VVT problem.

20-50 is TO THICK
10-30 is the ONLY OIL for an OEM SR20 unless you want to wait about 20 minutes for the oil to warm and thin out then drive.
 
haha, why do you say that. you really think that all that noise can be from the lifters... i mean yeah i would try the thiner oil first and see what happens, but that sure as hell sounds violent to just be lifter noise.

Hydrualic Lifters can get pretty loud. Plus rod knock wouldn't sound like that at idle and wouldn't go away after time
 
my rod knock noise sounded that at idle. but anyways im not to agrue, if it was me i would put the right oil in like you said and see what happens then.
