Problems...

Mk. I think I understand. I thought bigger tires would be harder to drift? but they are better right?

Oh I forgot to ask. Is it normal to be better at one side than the other. Like.. I can drift on a left hand corner alot better than a right hand corner. Is this normal? Or is this telling me my LSD is messed up?

Well it is harder to drift on larger tires, but the advantage of drifting on larger tires is the additional grip. You will be able to modulate the better modulate the throttle over a wider range of grip. You have the power to spin the 225's no questions asked.

The left hand vs right hand drifting thing. Its easier to make a left hand turn because of the left hand drive configuration. When you come into a left hand turn you most commonly will put your left hand at the top of the wheel and pull the wheel down to the left 1\2 a rotation while pulling on the ebrake. Now if you try that going to the right, its a more forien movement because you have to push the wheel up then over and down. So it takes a little more brain work, not to mention its easy to slide left and turns through intersections, where as right hand turns at 90degree angles take a little more effort to achive maximum angle.

The way I am able to adapt to using such large tires is because I was daily driving on a tire that had stupid amounts of grip. I was drifting on a bullshit 225 ballon sidewall tire, and i was daily driving on a 245 hancook rs-2, which is a 200treadwear tire designed for auto cross. Well everyone knows while you are on the daily commute you will slide a corner here or there, well getting used to a really sticky tire daily driving conditions you to adapt to a faster responding car. So while you are drifting you are used to how fast the car is moving and you can anticipate the movements of the car.... This is part of becoming a proactive driver.

So yea, I try to roll on unnecessary amounts of grip in the rear daily, so when i go drifting, its cake work.

Oh domel said he knew about it.. He was telling me about how he conected it. and I was like.... WTF mate? I never showed you. oh well. I guess I will set up some land mines...

Would it be better to roll on my 17's every day then so i get used to the grip they give me instead of driving on my huge 15's? I think thats what you are saying.

ha ha ha! I put a horn in my car today!! :bigthumbu

yes \ the next set of tires you buy for daily driving, try to get the widest set you can fit on your car, at least a 245.

I don't think my wheels will hold a 245?

I know they will hold a 225. uhh I am pretty sure they are 17x7.5 or 8 I don't really know.

My 245 45 16's were on a 7.5 wide wheel. Not exactly the best fit, slightly over square, not bulging though.

Throttle commitment.

That or extend with the ebrake.

Looks like you're just battling fear.

I do toggle the throttle alot.

Does anybody have a way to get cheap Falken 615's or azenis? I think they are the same thing.

You don't need mega-good tires.

There's two ways to extend a drift - throttle commitment or ebrake. Just look at the pro's - they're drifts go on for days. Straights that I couldn't even imagine linking are being linked with high powered at moderate speeds. How? Throttle commitment.

Hmm. What do you mean by commitment? Like just keep on the throttle all the way through. My car redlines after a little bit. I kindof like the Kuhmo's I am using. I've seen alot of pro drifters using the bajesus out of the e-brake. Mostly I've seen Mike Peters in the LS1 S13...

Gahh I want to go drifting today soo bad!!! Anyone want to come!??

Mike peters is a perfect example of throttle commitment. But yes, I mean keeping the pedal down or use the ebrake to extend a drift.

Soo I definetly understand Throttle Commitment now. I tried putting my 17's on tonight and realized that Discount Tire gave me the wrong lug nuts... soo once again I drifted the good old Q45 15" meshys.

I spun out and my car died... my idle used to be 900 and now it is steady at 600? and now the car dies every single time I put it in neutral and coast.. like.. coming to a stop sign or stop like... What did I do?

I cannot figure this one out. and I don't want to just go re-adjust the throttle incase that just makes my problem worse. I honestly have no clue what spinning out could have done?

ut oh.......... when you spun out, did you clutch down? did the engine spin backwards?

dose the car have power or dose it run like complete shit?

could your inter cooler pipes come loose \ boost leak?

It's been running kindof funny for about a week. It hasn't had the power it used to. But my idle just dropped to 800 for like an hour or soo then came back up. maybe when I spun out something fell off or maybe my piping just came loose some where.. bahh..

Thanks for the help man. i think I know what it was. When I broke my bumper I had two supports holding it up that connected to the supports on the intercooler, when I unbolted the bumper I left the intercooler loose by accident for like a week. This was about 2 weeks ago. I just noticed that my intercooler was loose on monday.

Yay! Thanks guys!

yea double check those tbolts. take them loose, reseat the coupler then retighten. If the car ever runs like ass or is sluggish check for boost leaks.

sounds like a vacum leak, no? would be my guess, or IC pipe.

shit gets addicting eh Justin?

edit: i just looked back at the vid. Tony and Rick are right, you need speed and throttle commitment.

look at the video frame by frame and look at where Noah's car is when he transitions and note his speed.

your first run, you didnt have enough speed and you tried to transition too early. which is why you had to straighten out.

you second run, you didnt have enough speed and you tried to hold it longer and get too sideways and you spun.

your third run, you didnt have enough speed but you were trying to transition at the right spot. but you had to straighten out b/c you had no more speed or momentum and you werent mashing the gas.(ever see a drag car go 1/8 mile with the ass hangin out just a little bit, thats what you need to do for the second curve, balls to the wall on throttle and a little angle)

something you might want to try(i dont know if this will work) but grip the first corner and drift the second corner, that way when you do make the transition you will know what the to expect and what you have to do to drift the whole second curve.(how sideways to have the car, how much throttle etc..)

then just go a little faster and you should get it soon. that is a pretty tough corner so dont get too discouraged. :)

no i never showed him and i doubt anyone else knows how to get there. they prob went to the other spot that we slide at night.

nobody knows how to get to the 'top-secret-invite-only-super-dori-linkable-s-curve-spot-place'

took hours of google earth and hours of getting lost on backroads for me to find that ho! and i havent even gotten to slide it yet, so dont bring no people to heat it up. :bigthumbu

Awesome!

Well today I got the correct lug nuts. I am about to flush my coolant system and put Water Wetter in. and I will look for my leak.

Then it will be time to go drifting... uhh I mean, testing... :bigthumbu

uhh I am finishing my Senior year of high school. But I am dual enrolled in the community college soo I only to go school from 9am to 11am. :D

Other than that I have a part time job from 12 to 4 every day.

I am going to be a Law Major... soo I am in a law class at the community college and today we had a mock trial soo I had to be a lawyer today and go represent one of my classmates at the federal court house.... Soo I had to miss work today.. but it worked out because I got to flush my coolant system like 7 times. check for the vacuum leak which I think I found, but the idle is still at 600...

And it doesn't get dark until about 7:30.. soo after work I can come home, eat, pack up sandwhiches and drinks in the back of the 240 and go drifting for about an hour.

Yeah, And I don't really have very many friends... soo Yeah That's just how I roll.. :ugh:
