Question: 240sx Auto + Acceleration & RPM

I have not really done anything significant to my car other than put new rims. My friend did tighten my throttle line.

Things that have recently happen, one of my fans gave out and my car overheated but not for too long, and it's leaking anti-freeze. At one point the inner metal of the spark plug wires was not on the wires but stuck on the spark plugs. I replaced those, also replace the spark plugs. Also just changed the oil, synthetic 10/30.

My current problem is and it happens perhaps on the 3rd gear of the automatic from 60 - 80 mph. It get's stuck at 4k to 4,5k rpms and it just sounds like the engine is being revved high and as it get's to 80mph it switches and I can push the pedal all the way in and it is responsive. If it goes under 80mph and I step on it, it takes forever a good while to get passed 80mph and the speed goes down while it's stuck on 4k rpm. This has happen before trying to get past 20 mph, but I have no clue what it maybe.

I'm thinking it may have to do with the overheating, or perhaps the change in the throttle body line...

i got a auto tranny for sale. 50 bucks picked up. it doesnt have speed sensor though. and you need your coolant lines. and your harness. plus ill throw in auto driveshaft for free.

Sounds like it could be a tranny problem cuz on mines if I step on it to hard it won't grip 3rd but check ur throttle cable cuz sometimes they get stuck when u hit the gas after u tampered with it

I've done a lot of "googling" on this subject. The best way to describe it, is power loss at high rpm. Specifically at 4,000 to 4,500 rpm on 3rd gear as described in my original post.

So far I have found speculation as to what maybe causing the problem; bad tps sensor, bad maf, bad ecu, the transmission itself, spark plug, spark plug wires, bad knock sensor, vacuum leaks, bad fuel pump, bad o2 sensor.

I have yet to find a post that someone figure out the problem...stumped, would hate to keep spending money and things that already work.

I would love to swap to a 5 speed :), don't know any one selling one, with installation in Miami yet.

try replacing your trans fluid.also my 2jz had a similar problem and its auto and it was a bad 02 and a bad throttle position switch.try that.o2 sensors arent expensive.dont know about tps

How may I find the default throttle position? I remember my friend moved the throttle line position, to make the car more responsive...

switch out your tranny. thats exactly what happen to mine i spoke to one guy that used to work for nissan and he told me that auto 240s had that problem and that those trannys were weak. he recommended me to take tranny oil pan off to see if saw an metal shreds and sure enough that was the case which ment tranny died and i went ahead with 5spd swap

No. You never replace auto tranny fluid when theres already a problem.
