racing line

Yeah like some have said before that book will pretty much answer any questions you have about racing line, there's also a dvd that goes by the same name for the more visual learners.

drift = oversteer which is a great way to keep your car moving through turns or corners without having to slow down so much and to keep those high rpms thats y u see in rally the cars barely lose speed wen getting around turns sidewayz

p.s. if u wanna learn more read any gran turismo booklet lol

Dude that doesnt make any sense, oversteer is not a great way to go fast through corners, have you ever seen a F1 car try to oversteer through a set of turns. Get the Skip Barber Book, i have it and is a great book, also get How to make your car handle another good book. Listen to what 240sicknexxxxx said.

on that article it said old school formula one racers usto oversteer minimal but none the less oversteer. but with the development of the tires it difficult and uneccesary to oversteer. im going to look into those books and vids. i belive wen u learn the racing line your drifts look cleaner and faster. plus i would like to also get into scca races but in the future im only 17 and i love drifting rite now.

if it wasnt clear in the other comment than lemme explain that it pertained to wrc we have all heard of in order to go fast u have to go slow(grip driving f1 w.e) now race a car down a rally course with out oversteer and do it again with oversteer and tell me who makes the fastest times

besides how does it not make sense???? u slow down less and you make a sharper turn

The fastest way through a corner is to follow the largest radius,

I know you that you know your stuff, but the wording is wrong. By those standards, you'd want to go as far from the apex as possible.

But you correct yourself on the next line.

You have to be smooth with the steering wheel. Everyone knows this.

The radius I describe is the actual line that you are driving on, not the edge of the road. If i were to drive on the outer most line that would not be smooth, it would be a rather sharp turn.

for example, in a smaller turn you might turn the wheel 3\4 rotation. In a larger turn you might turn the wheel 1\2 rotation. Now if you were to hold the wheel in either position you would end up going in a circle. the 1\2 rotation of steering movement would result in the larger radius. For the most part the fastest way through a corner is to drive on the largest radius possible.

I would supply a picture but my computer fucked up pretty bad and I dont have my client ID for my ftp server. or id host my lame mspaint drawing explaining everything.

Im sure barnes and noble has the book, or amazon. amazon is amazing, i have like 480 dollars worth of books that i want to buy, i purchase one every 2 weeks or so to pace myself.

Just picking on your wording... I admitted that everything else was correct.

This whole thread makes me want to pick up a book... havent read anything on the subject in quite a while.

I suck at writting.

I love being able to apply what i have read to my real life situation. Reading about chassis functions and blah, then going out and taking 1\4in of pre-load out of the rear coil overs to help rear traction. And it works !

But don't forget. an improper setup is hurting you badly ecspecially on the exit of a turn. I know ive been there. get an LSD asap. DAN has 2 for sale right now.

dont forget about all the timing that has to go down when drifting, like e-braking, down shifting, turning in, catching the oversteer, hitting the gas, ease out of the slide, and into the next corner.

ooo... my bad almost forgot about the best thing timing the clutch kicks.

yeah about the lsd i have one sitting in my yard its just got into some trouble on the day i was going to put it on. this weekend its going on .... i didnt think its was the diff but i guess ill see the diff wen i drive with lsd... the drifitng aspect like shifting and clutch i got down i mean i can get the car sydways and hold it and bring it back to the next turn but i just it to look cleaner and well get better and i know on this site there are some ppl who know wat there talking about and well y not learn frm there experience... i want to post a vid but i dont knwo how to upload onto my dam comp i got this camera http://bombayelectronics.com/camcorders/jvc/jvccam_D250ag.jpg but no hardware for it exepct i got a usb cable lmk anyone.
