After trying to remove the sohc powersteering line from the rack and pinion it rounded off. Its so hard on there that it rounded off before coming lose.

Any one have any suggestions? I already have tired taking it off for hours with a vice grip pliers with no luck.

hammer and chissel the bitch until it turns.

either that or you have to drill or cut it off (depending on what type of bolt/screw/nut/whatever it is.)

post a pic of the problem if you can.

What size is the bolt? if it a common size pepboy's sell's a kit to remove rounded bolt's and nut's...

Go to pep boys, discount, sears or w/e and look for a socket that is "swirled" inside. They are made for rounded off heads. I use them at Toyota all the time and they work perfect. They cut into the head and rip it out. Can't use the screw any more but I'm sude you wouldn't care. :p

I guess i can cut the pipe and use the sockets they sell? What do you guys think?

Here's the pic.

+1 i say cut the line off and use the special sockets as stated above and remove the rounded nut! or use a vise grip to et it off

spary some penetrating oil on it as well.

Vise grips should work. If you cant get them closed use a big adjustable plier to squeeze it tight.

Dude use vise grips i had the same problem on my clutch and brake lines.. ask noah to help you out hehe...

I bet it rounded cause you didn't use a LINE WRENCH. Vise Grips will take it off...Or get a new rack. It is only a few bucks more then vise grips!

I used an open wrench to try and take it off till it rounded off. I have sprayed wd-40 on it and went to work on it with vice grips with no luck. The last resort would be getting a new rack. lol. Unless anyone has one laying around for cheap!

Thanks for the help everyone! :bigthumbu

dude vise grips will work. you just gotta get them on stupid tight. Like i said use a big pair of adjustable pliers to help close the vise grip handles so they are stupid tight. Then get something to add some leverage.

Open End Wrench = Disaster on Lines that REQUIRE a Line Wrench!

should have used a line wrench from the start................

I would grind 2 flat edges on the nut so the vice grip has a flat mating surface to clamp on instead of sliding off........

I dont know how those sockets they sell at sears are at getting stripped bolts out. I tried using one on a motor mount bolt and I did not have any luck.

persistence.

BTW that is a flared fitting which dose not have to be stupid tight threading into that aluminum rack and pinion.

You should always use a line wrench on brake\ hydrolic lines it keeps everything from rounding off and you are able to get proper torque on the fitting.
