s14 sr20 in an s13 fiasco

lowballs

Driver
ok so i bought an s14 sr in a hatch, its got some nice accessories to it but the motor is in complete disarray. on the drive home it ended up over heating and i guess blowing the head gasket/detonation in cylinder 3.

the motor has je pistons which i am told are 9:1 compression. it has a mines ecu tuned for 440cc injectors and god knows what else. im currently in the process of hopefully finding out what else

heres where i have the issue. i had the head decked, bought a new head gasket. reseated the valves, got new valve stem seals and arp head studs.

put everything back together. car ran ok for ONE day. now it smokes, whenever i turn it on it puffs out some smoke. it looks a bit blueish which would be oil i expect. whenever shifting gears itll puff out a little bit as well. also whenever i turn it on it smokes too. it has low compression still and doesnt like to idle.

my brain is running out of ideas on this one guys.

tldr; smoking on start/idle/shift, poor idle, low compression

low comp is the rings...
maybe they havent seated yet
did u put some oil in cylinder when u did comp test
and wat tourqe did u put on head?
specs say 80lbs
i always do 100..

I figured it was the rings. I think I torqued them down to 80 or 90. Didn't put any oil in the cylinders either. I'm guessing your supposed to? How long do they usually take to seat?

he didn't do new rings, he did all top end stuff. if the rings haven't seated after one heat cycle, they aren't going too.

no offense but my first assumption of the disaster would of been lower end failure. and i would of done a compression test and found out the exact problem before you go and start replacing shit, all of the detonation most likely cracked the rings and your original problem was in the bottom end

When we first got it it had low compression. I asked the people I was working with if I needed to check the piston rings and they said I shouldn't need to and that it was probably just the head that was messed up. Is it possible to take the pistons out and put them back in through the bottem?

No sir from the top
u will have to check cylinder walls proper measuring tool
If its not bad u may get away w a hone..
If its bad machine shop an. 5 over pistons and rings
