Salt water fish tank thread

yea i no jeremy does but i got no monies or a place to put it. i need my own place

that would be a problem. lol

but let it be known that if your doing salt... its not exactly the cheapest thing to set up. doesnt have to be super expensive but you know its not super cheap either. most of the for instace the corals that i had were about eh 50-100 a pop depending on which ones of course. that angel that i had was worth about 100+ not that i paid that for him since i worked at a fish store for about 2+ years and when he came in i scooped his ass right up along with any other badass fish lol. the really colorfull fish that you see the anthias.. they range 30-50 and they are a very very hard fish to keep alive as they should be feed 3 times a day. this is were having a larger tank helps with a fuge cause the copepods help kept them fed.

the freshwater was a 20long and i never had any algae thanks to the pleco:bigthumbu
the nano reef had all kinds of shit in it, polyps, shrooms, feather dusters, crabs, shrimp, live coral, anemones, watchman goby, firefish, sea slugs, sea cucumber, the list goes on and on, its no longer around cause it got way to expensive to maintain

also lighting is a major factor here too... depending on how long you ran your lights for and what there wattage was.

my shit was 36X6 bulbs so thats like 216 watts of lighting over my 58 and like 100 watts over my 15L. for my 75 i want to sport about 500watts over that.

the freshwater had a spectrum bulb kept everyone happy and the salt had a half day half moon light setup idk the wattage, it was enough for the size tho and a new light setup aint cheap lol

meh 24watts over a nano cube sounds like you were running a 50/50 bulb which gives things decent color and provide some ok lighting. but yea lighting aint cheap.. my last fixture for my 58 was 700 bones. plus then your got skimmers and all kinds of shit after that. return pumps bla bla bla. lol i really had alot of shit.

yeh it was ok i wish the nano had better lighting but like i said shit got to expensive, im contemplating turning the brackish tank into a full saltwater setup, its being setup for mudskippers right now but since i havent gotten them yet(dont know where to find them local, indian skippers by the way they are the smallest one available) i might just go with like a simple clown fish, anemone and some easy to maintain rock idk yet man, i havent seen prices on saltwater shit in yrs

if your gonna do a nano cube either get the DX which has better lighting or get the one with the 70watt metal halide... that shit is leet as fuck. i think red sea makes the one with the halide though i dont remenber now. anywho your aneomne will <3 you for it. if your gonna turn that brackish into salt get either some T5 lighting or halides. what size is this tank that you have?

im using the 20 long right now, i was looking at the nova lights i can deal with 70-80 for the day/moon setup but fuck 20 bucks a bulb is crazy lol
its really bare right now with a shitty filter, its enough for the 5 gallons in the tank but im pushing it and the i need a bigger heater too shit is always on and im only peaking 81degrees which is ok for now, ill snap a pick in a little, like i said its really really bare lol

errrr... well if you go full salt... you can pretty much toss that heater right out cause we like 70-75 or so... 78 being holy shit its kinda hot. with a 20L being 30" long lighting is kinda a pain. honestly Nova is shit but if its what you can afford then so be it.. its not terrible just not good at all. and yes bulbs do cost money.. and they should be replaced atleast once a year if your gonna do PC lighting.

it used to be like 74degrees, ever since i turned the heat up the mangrove has been growing faster, its gonna take forever to get it to branch solely to the sides, the new shoot is about to open 4 leaves tho like in the next few days:bigthumbu

i dont even want to think about when its gonna throw prop roots:mad:

lame damsel... i was hoping for something mega sweet!

like what lol im JUST getting started, little by little man, damsel is good to cycle the tank :bigthumbu:bigthumbu

i got shrooms lol ill get pics ina little

no damsels are not good to cycle the tank. if that fish lives through the cycle, which it probably will, u will have a hard time introducing non aggressive fish. u should have just taken a peice of shrimp from publix and putting it in there. do u have live sand and live rock? how big is ur tank?

20 long and yes ther is live sand, live rock and base rock, and they are great to cycle the tank, when im done he goes back to the store lol no problemo prob even get a couple bucks store credit, this isnt my first setup either its just been a while :bigthumbu
