I just wanted to know if anyone had any information/sites/reading material about the ca18det. Im getting really interested in it and would like some info. If you know hit me up and let me know.

180sxworld.com

I'm not sure if they have anything useful.

but it's a site all about 180's soo Yeah.

Just trying to be helpful.

google is great......

what exactly do we need to know about?

Nicoclub.com is far and away the best source for info on the CA.

my GF has one in her S13...

well i just wanted to read up on it because im highly considering getting one and im just curious on overall reliability and performance.

performance stock vs stock
sr > ca > ka
due to turbo sizing and dispacement.

Dont trust everything u read on nico, or it may take u 2 days to do ur clutch. (i just finished mine)
reliability is great, stock replacement parts are not hard to get, ECU is easier to tune.
harness install is pretty much the same as a sr20 harness install.
any other ???

just out of curioustiy... why are you interested in a ca? not flaming or anythign..just wondering why not an sr..etc

well i wanted something better than my single cam ka! and i didnt really want to go sr (not knocking it or anything) but it just seems that the ca's are really good motors and there a little easier on the wallet which is better for me.

im singal cam as well and i was deciding on an upgraded motor i was thinking sr or ca as well but i herd price difference is not much ... wat would be more bang for my buck.. cuz if i pay like 200 buks more for an sr and can get in the 200whp stock then sr it is cuz i know ca dont make much hp stock. correct me if im rong im also newbish with these motors.

id say go sr.. a full swap can be done for under 3500 depending on how much labor u do urself... and the aftermarket support seems to be huge for em

ur looking at atleast $500 difference I think. how much do sr's go for nowadays?

Also Sr's dont put 200whp on stock trim. With a little boost up ofcourse, but then again I did the same thing with my below stock ca when I first put it in the car. My intercooler piping was worse then a stock sidemount.
Alot of ca18's already have sr t25g turboes on them when u get it(common swap), so the horse power difference is negligable. its the turbo that makes the stock power lower. CA comes with a smaller t25 .48a/r while the redtop sr comes with a t25g .80a/r. More efficient and better for high rpms.

Displacement too. I've never seen a CA put down 250whp on a t25.

CA's worst attribute - its age. Piston rings sealing? They might not for long.

I <3 CA! DO IT! Ill fly up and help you!

Just refresh it before install. New Seals, Clutch, Gaskets, Compression Test it. Upgrade amnifold and turbo. Then Fall in love!

yea guys im not here to battle the age old question about which is better between the sr or ca. im interested in getting a ca and wanted some info before i got one is all. so therefore im getting a ca when i can but just wanted to know what it is tha i need to know and do for one. that is all.

first and formost the CA parts are nearly impossible to access if they did come with the motor or you get a broken part. the CA in gabby's car took 3 weeks of me over nighting and calling everyone I know to get parts because they arent the same as a SR or KA.

I now have 2 extra ECUs, 6 extra blaster coils, and a ton of other CA parts because Ive decided to hold on to extra parts incase at a later date I have to replace things.

The difference in price is about 1k, and for the cost I figured it wouldnt be that different. well it it has ben 5 weeks now and the AC still doesnt work because we dont have a working IACV.

If we did it again, no question SR......

It is a great motor if you have all the pieces, if you dont it is a fantastic paperweight.

as for now that i finally got it running correctly it is a ton of fun and a great little engine. even now when I want to start working on finding parts for it is nearly impossible(short of importing for japan).

if you do it....... dont settle for anything short of a front clip. Also, make sure they check all the coils(CA's weak point)....

I dont know, it seems u didn't have the luck I had. In my case I got my engine, then I got the harness, then the ecu, and then the resistor pack for the injectors. All seperate ppl, it can be done just alittle more headache. Front clips are always good, but its not necessary. I would suggest trying to get a complete engine set.
I also didn't change my clutch or my seals, or any gaskets except for my oilpan cause the delivery guy popped alittle hole in the oilpan and I HAD to take it off inorder to weld it. It was running like that with new belts, thermostat, waterpump for about 1 1/2yrs until I changed the timing belt again the other day and put new camseals. crank wasn't leaking, and one cam was leaking alittle. Timing belt was still good. changed the clutch last weekend with new rearmain seal, pilot bushing... OH yeah Im running right now with one of my altima fans not working, and temp is rock solid.
alot of parts u can get from napa in a couple days from the warehouse.
Its always good to keep some spare parts incase something breaks. Same as on any motor.

As far as the a/c goes im sorry to hear that its not working. I put mine in with my kaE compressor and charged it right up. Worked until I crashed my car. That idle valve and iacv are hard parts to find, I admit and its hard to find a ca in the junkyard, but if ur missing an sr ignitor, what are u gonna do. Order one, and until it comes in, the engine is a paperweight.
btw u can use an sr ignitor on a ca if u change the plugs. u can use a kaE afm, and compressor no probs. u can use a s14 sr ecu with a retune if u have too or a ca18de ecu with a retune out of a 87-89 pulsar nx se. u can use a sr flywheel/clutch assembly with different starter and shave the bellhouse down in one spot or a 85 200sx pressure plate (ca18et), ka clutch disk. Ka tranny if u put the ca bellhousing on it. ka driveshaft, ka trannymount/motor mounts(ca motor mounts are preferred) s14 sr intercooler piping, sr turboes(t2?), I think u can use a specific 300zx cam sensor, ka coolant sensor, ka radiator, ka shortshifter, 200sx alternator with bracket, 200sx waterpump, most low impedence topfeed denso style injectors(similar to KaE) or top feed high impedence if u iliminate the resistor pack... ohh family is here, gotta go.

O yeah I totally forgot about the drop in resistor I got 2 of those now too..... if you need one those arent horrible to find.

PS thanks Nook for some of those tit bits I didnt catch on Nico. Im sure they will come in handy one day.
