SR20....Help!...

Ok...I saved money to get a SR20 swap for my '96 240....I talked to a friend, and says he knows a place that does those..So I called and asked how much they do the full swaps for..He said with the swap, it includes....the sr20 engine..intake,intercooler,radiator,turbo,blow-off valves,fuel injectors,headers,exhaust, and some other stuff...Im just naming the basics that I could remember he mentioned...He gave me a reasonable price...But what would you guys suggest?
 
Ask yourself this question.. If something goes wrong with your car, and you swaped it. Who would you blame the problem on? Now take the same question and apply it to the mechanic that did the swap for you. What do you think would be a best way to save yourself from future problems???? DO IT THE RIGHT WAY!!! and have the mechanic do it right the first time. If there is any problems you take it back to him and complain.

Take it from experience!!!

And then you would have some other sleezy mechanic trying to get in your pockets pointin the finger right back at ya... :) Save 3k do it urself.. know ur car.. take pride in your car.. no one else will

:) because im not a mechanic ;) And that wasnt a shot @ you it was in general.. I kno there are SOME good mechanics out there but lets be real folks.. most are just tryin to rip off the uninformed driver and thats no secret..
 
I know a shop that charges about $3000 for the complete swap. If you want BOV, FMIC, cat back, etc. Add it to 3K...

Mike I respect the fact that you want to save this guy some money. I can see your point on how a mechanic can charge him an arm and a leg for the labor. But he needs to shop around and find the best price. Not everyone charges 3k for a swap. Their are plenty of others who can do it for less.

Just trying to clarify.. ur post wasnt too clear.. and yeah I kno of a few shops that would easily get into the 3k range for a swap... @75+/hr it doesnt take too long
 
Lol...Just keep arguing you guys....and S13SilviaCoupe...If you can..Can you list everything that is included in that 3,000$ deal?
 
Call Andres at 954-257-9787 (RAW) maybe you can go by the shop in Davie today to see the work they do and ask for a price.

good luck with the swap, and like mike said, there are sleezy mechanics. i would hope you have a good judge of character, cause if you do, make sure you keep an eye on how he acts when talking to you. you can usually catch a scam artist before the scam if your eyes stay open.
i would tell you to go to my old roommate, but you are here in sfl, and he is in whorelando. i know he is an amazing mechanic who wouldn't try to fuck you over. but if its your first swap, don't do it yourself (sorry mike) you will come across problems that will piss you off and confuse you. not saying you are dumb, just first time swaps need the heloing hands of people who can help and offer advice. i am sure if you were to end up doing it yourself and needed to ask for help, there are a shit load of people including myself who would be willing to offer some help. good luck, and try to keep the slimey fingers out of your pocket. jdm miami is right, there are people who will do it for less then 3k. just shop around. good luck.
 
Yeah, I'm split both ways.

My motor was put in by a shop, but I was really good friends with them and they let me work on it with them the entire time.... but when stuff went wrong, I had no idea what to do, and when you do it yourself, you notice things.. Like, the shop forgot to gap my spark plugs, and I know that I wouldn't have forgotten, sometimes its the stupidest stuff, but unless you do it yourself, it'll take forever to figure it out.

On the other hand, if you don't know much about it, let the shop do it, It will cost you more money, but you'll save a crap load in time...

I don't know how experianced you are with motor swaps.. but good luck!
 
Contact my partner Manny at mecca-motorsports (561)685-1963 were right in west palm. tell em jaime told you to give him a call and see what his availability looks like. price is about $500 in labor and it can get done in a weekend. look around and you will see what our reputation is like and theres some pics of our work on here also.

Also we can pick up the swap from JDM of MIAMI if you want to get it through them.

have the same person install the engine you buy it from...if there is a problem then there is no loophole for them.

i took mine to Drag international years ago, first motor he plopped in had a knock, he yanked it and put in a fresh one.

now imagine if i bought the motor that had knock, swapped it myself, found out it had knock, had to yank it myself, hope he would be trusting enough to let me swap with another motor...etc... = headache.

if you do not have the space/experience/help/tools to successfully pull off a quick clean motor swap, just save your pennies and have it done.

i suggest drag international.
 
Have somebody good make your harness, the rest is fairly easy on your own if you have the time/space/tools.
