On my 89 hatch last year I did a 98 ka swap with a 93 manual trans, a few months later the starter had a problem catching the flywheel so I bought a new clutch and flywheel and replaced the starter, it worked fine for about 6 months and now I have the same exact problem again......does anyone have any ideas on what this problem could be? Anything would help thanks.

Not helpin^^:chair: its to the point where the starter won't even start the motor it only catches for a second and the starter just spins freely

lol you know its true...

but to try and help, when i was doing research on the different transmission options to try and figure out why my gears are so much shorter than ryans and bens, i ran across some stuff about the s14 bellhousing being slightly different than the s13

its possible that maybe it puts the starter at a wierd angle and wears off the teeth on either the flywheel, starter, or both. I would look into that

also, didnt you just recently put anna's tranny in the car? Wasnt it fine before then?

You need to make sure all the flywheel teeth are intact first. Then make sure the starter has all its teeth as well. If everything is good then you're going to have to bench test the starter to make sure it moves out and stays out. If it doesn't, replace. If it does you may have to try to shim the starter

Well I kno now that the starter is working, so I went and got a 98 starter and a flywheel for a 98 ka, I think this should solve this problem ill keep you up dated
