Depending on the year it'll weigh 2100-2300 pounds, they come with an r180 differential but can be swapped out for an R200. Some people have been swapping SRs into them, however the cheapest route will be to swap in an L28et from a 280zx turbo. They can be made into drift cars, however it's going to be hard to get parts if he smashes it. (I messed up my Z...)

There used to be a guy that drifted a 280zx turbo in Orlando, I'm sure the 240z will do just fine. I've actually been waiting for someone to build an all out drift car out of an old s30z and I would have if I had the money. Instead I had to sell mine and get a daily/weekend track car. (still saved most of my go fast parts in case I ever get another one)

Good luck with the build.

Check out hybridz.org for info on swaps. There's so many things you can do to those little cars on a budget.

damm only 2100-2300 pounds i was thinking under1800-1900 pounds those cars are very very small.

Yeah i know man this 240z looks INSANE just by looking at it . you can see the eye catching on this car , you should check the website my nephew got it from of this 240z

http://speedhunters.com/archive/2009/11/04/car-feature-gt-gt-that-240z.aspx

still i told my nephew , the parts will be hard to find depending on the crash front, rear, sides. even the windshield its hard to find 1 in a decent condition. anyways. he will love to have 1, and he already found 1 guy that has 1 and is asking about 2,500 for it. no rust, fully stock, and runs great as a daily drive it belongs from a auto mechanic 2nd owner and he says he cut out the rust out so he says is rust free. with 4 speed , stock engine 1971. now i havent went to check it out. but my nephew is going i believe today afternoon to go see it. and i might go to check it out as well.

dont know how much the price it runs for those Datsun 1971 240Z i know another guy here in Hollywood he has a 1972 Datsun 240Z and he is asking $8000 for it. but this guy my nephew found wants 2,500 for it. im going to check it and see how it looks and how it drives. my nephew is thinking to lowball him a little and get it for 2,000 if he goes for it. ofc if the 240z drives pretty good, and if runs alright at 70-80 mph at I95 :D is gonna drive test it.

i think LS1 motors has been on these cars as well, and they did pretty good runs i think . ..

I would stick with an L28et and just up the boost, it's a bolt right in swap and they're really torquey motors.

185hp/202tq stock (7 psi), granted that's at the crank but you can boost the motor up to about 10 psi without an intercooler and up to 12 psi on the stock injectors. They're easy to get power out of for cheap (until you hit 350-400), but do you really need that much power from such a light weight car? Plus boost kicks in pretty early, there's virtually no turbo lag. Just shop around you might even find one thats already swapped, if not the L28et swap can be done for real cheap and getting 250rwhp out of that car is EASY and really cheap as well.

The ZG flares, the msa airdam, and the bre wing have been "played out on Zs" for a lot longer than that car. But really, played out? You rarely see any Zs period so I don't know what the hell that dude is talking about.

True this I've only seen 1 and that was some guy on here that drift his at the skidpads

dude, 2200lbs is really light. there are very, and i mean very, few cars thats weigh 1800lbs unless they are completely stripped. most cars these days weigh over 3000lbs. i mean shit the s2000 curb weight is 2,835lbs and curb weight of a 1999 miata is 2,299lbs

I saw few vids that many few guys done alot of crazy engine swaps for the 240z , this swap it looks so beast without the hoood :D , i think this 240z its close to 1800lbs the windshield is even plexiglass :D awesome..
