thermostat ?s

hey guys, i was overheating the other day and the problem was my thermostat. this isnt the 1st time it has happened so i just took it off n ddnt replace it. is this a bad thing or nothing to worry about. input wilkl be appreciated. thanks

yes running without a thermostat is bad. Reason being is because coolant is constantly flowing which doesnt allow the motor to properly warm up, this can result in lack of performance, and running rich, just because were in Florida is not a excuse to not run one. Your ecu has whats called a Warm Up procedure, the ecu dumps more fuel to warm up the motor quickly so that you can get to optimal operating temp. Just so you know a motor performs better in the 195-210*F this helps with combustion because the warmer the fuel is the better it is for atomization which means a better burn which means mo powa. Do a google search for "Wall Wetting"

throw in a new OEM thermostat, do not get a Nismo one as that lowers the temp, you want optimal operating temp.

I monitored my coolant temprature with the stock thermostat in, it hovered around 179-182 and no more even sitting in traffic. Under the same ambient tempratures of ~75 degrees the nismo theromostat netted me 168-172*. I put my nismo thermostat in so i have a larger cusion for cooling capacity while im on the track.

I definitly reccomend running a thermostat, the extra 10 degrees helps when you are wot for 3 mins on a track.

If you dont run a thermostat either the coolant will not stay in teh radiator long enough to cool off and you will run hot (un likely), or the engine never warms up totally and you will be operating with in an ineffecient coolant temprature for fuel combustion, not to mention the engine's internals not expanding into proper tolerences because the engine is too cool.

i think a oem theromostat is 12 retail, and nismo is 65. @ nissan

i've never noticed a difference in performance with a thermostat or without a thermostat so until i notice, no thermostat for me! It takes x2 the amount of time to warm up to normal temp without a thermostat according to the cluster as it did with stock thermostat.. of course running stock clutch fan ftw.

thank god the stock cluster gauge sucks like crap. Get yourself a real water temp gauge than you'll see a difference. The stock gauge is so crappy that so many people damaged their engines because it was still "cool" when it actually overheated. The sensor for the cluster is fine its just the gauge blows and gives inaccurate readings.

definatly Efans FTMFW I'm using a Taurus fan in my whip and my god that bitch outflows the clutch fan anyday. I mean come on 3800cfm on high jesus.

LOL and real race cars arent running clutch fans for a reason. Just because D1 users use clutch fans doesnt mean its good, they dont push the cars hard enough like real track race cars.

......... and the members on this forum do? thats what I thought too.

take the chance of my efan to stop working and damage my motor, or run clutch fan and never have to worry about my fan taking a crap. hmmmmmmmm. I'll go with the master techs @ nissan japan w/ the clutch fan thanks

and if the clutch fails, 20$ for another 20yrs > 200$ for ?????

but on a lighter note, the thermostat is what regulates the temperature of coolant going thru the engine so you could have the biggest baddest efans in the world and it won't make it run any cooler.

main advantage of e fans is that when you car is sitting in traffic its moving 3000+cfm's through your radiator. clutch fans work best at higher rpm's like on the highway, were i can just turn the fans off and be totaly fine.

so E-fans FTMFW always and forever.

it doesnt matter what speed ur fans are running at, the engine is only gonna get coolant at a certain temperature if you are running a thermostat

i finally got stanza fans from u-pick it,, they run good , not in car yet but soooon, hopefully be4 saturday, someone come here and watch me do it,, or whatever ill give u oreo cookies !!!
