thinking of moving to japan...

if you can get one it is awesome because you can shop on base ( everything on base like gas and food is usally a little cheaper but the kick ass part is you dont pay sales tax on anything)

That IS true. Germany is very much alike. I was amazed.... they even had bowling arenas and a bunch of other cool shit... it's more like a city itself than an army base.

Here's a word of warning though. If you really want to move outside the US, visit the place first for a couple of weeks to see if you like it.

You see drift land and automotive JDM but there is always a huge flip side.... best example is culture shock.

If any of you seen Borat, then filter the comedy out and you can get an idea of what its like. A foreigner comes to a country and encounters so many things and sees many behaviors he has never imagined.

yeah i've been in bases... (ex Marine) i think i would have to wait a bit anyhow, and the whole drifting jdm thing ... i'm not really doing it for that , i'm 20 i know things aren't all cotton candy and fair rides man... i just want to travel and live other shit, i want to be culture shocked like ALL the time... i might just go backpacking... but europe seems too dangerous for me dude (yeah right, trained killing machine right here, haha) like i said japan isn't my only option right now i'm just fanning my cards and weing what looks like a cool trip ( a long ass trip )....

If you want to move to Japan, you're very limited as to where you want to live.

Brazil has basically a colony in Japan. From what I hear... everyone that goes to Japan to live for a while ends up in a small area where they all concentrate. Japanese people arent very social with others so you get that exclusion feeling. I heard even of discrimination that the Japanese dont let the Brazilians even attend their events.

I think you would be best off in US Army base towns. When I went to Germany, I stopped by such towns as Bamberg and Schweinfurt and the amount of Americans went up by the thousands. I'd picture it'd be the same in Japan.... so Okinawa would be my first suggestion.

That is awesome. When I goto Brazil next mont I am going to the Japanese district. My Girlfriend told me it is just like Japan. It will be awesome. It will be a PRE Trip before I goto Japan Jan 08.

What city are you going to? If it's Sao Paulo I assume you're going to Liberdade?

Also, when are you going? If so hit me up... if I'm there we can hit up the beach house.

+1 on the culture shock thing. I am pretty much ready to come home and be able to actually talk to people again. One thing making me sad to leave Japan though, is this really great girl I met here.

To address a few subjects though.....

Finding a Japanese girl who will marry you isn't that hard. Yes sometimes there is a stigma attached to marrying a foreigner, but it's mostly from the parents. Find a Japanese girl with cool parents, or one who doesnt care what they think.

Also most Japanese people do not dislike americans. The people here are not stupid, they dislike some of what America stands for and there is a general dislike of Bush, but Japanese people; like most people with brains, know that every human being is different and everyone I have met has been very nice and never rude to me.

The protests in Okinawa are not as common as the media makes it seem. And the people protesting are NOT the average Japanese people. Most Japanese people are aware of the fact that America has offered to leave many times and Japanese government asks them to stay and provides incentives. Also a lot of the protesting has to do with tha very fact. Some of them are protesting Japans decision to keep US military here.

Also Okinawa is FAR from mainland Japan. Still Japanese culture in general, but also different. A lot of native Okinawans actually speak a different language from Japanese. Native Okinawans are also a slightly different race of people from Japanese.

Andthis loophole thing. I don't know if it still exists. I also dont know what the island is to fly to, but apparently a lot of guys work here illegally and fly to Korea every 90days or so. I dont now how long Japanese immigration takes to catch on, but if and when they do..... you will be banned from entering Japan for 5 years.

Here is the easiest plan.... Come here on vacaion for a few weeks. It can be done on a budget. meet some nice girl, dont aim for the stars. Learn as much Japanese as you can. Talk to english teaching schools. Marry girl if possible. Now you have a spouse Visa. Now you can work for anywhere youre qualified. Only requirement for english teachers is 12 years of school in english. For most of us that means high school diploma.

The english schools that require a degree, (majority require a bachelors or be enrolled in a bachelors program) only require that as insurance that you are gonna be reliable and worth investing their money into. They get you the visa, japan doesnt require the degree, the schools do, but apparently the schools are heavily subsidized by the Japanese gov't and make good money from bringing in teachers. However, you need ZERO teacher experience or education.

Hope that helps.

Its still a fact that its looked down upon to marry a foreigner and its still a fact that protests exist in Okinawa. That's all I was saying since both topics were brought up. Did you meet many american men married to japanese woman living in Japan?

Only two I met were my friend and a friend of his that was visiting. I don't think the marrying a foreigner thing is as much of a stigma as it used to be, but that'd be a better question for somebody who is Japanese.

BTW, Sean I can't believe you're ready to leave already....I was expecting you to extend your ticket for another few days/week. What'd you find out about teaching Nova part time? Jake said he thought you couldn't get a work Visa unless you have a 4 year degree...kind of like Japan's way of saying "well, we really don't want you foreign types working here, but if you have a degree, then you can't be all bad".

the beach house is in ubatuba... in the area called "litoral norte". I will be there for christmas and new years.

Well Im ready to leave because I have a lot of stuff to tend to back home, it's expensive to stay here, I'm supposed to go to DriftFury on saturday, my left knee is falling off from walking everywhere towing 3tons of baggage, and Yuki is busy as hell......

Hope to come back maybe February-March. Actually I think april is when the Sakura blooms so, maybe spring break in Japan....

So.... sayonara, goodbye, hasta-luego, and aufviedersehen from land of the rising sun, I board a plane in 6 hours.
