This s**ts pissing me off

Ok so as some of you know, my cars been out of commission as of like a month ago when i spun a rod bearing from being stupid and not checking my cars oil level every now and then
So i sold my drumset to get some money, and i bought a new KA for $350 and payed off the rest of my 5 lug swap. I also bought some tein springs on some old rusted stock struts for $75

So right now my cars in the garage, just waiting till the weekend for this dude to come over and help me with the swap

In the mean time i figured, hey take those tein springs off and put em on my stock springs, and do the 5 lug swap so its mostly ready and just needs the engine

Well i tryed getting the front tein springs off and it was no luck. I used some spring compressors to compress them as much as i could, and then i sprayed a bucnh of wd40 on the rusted nut and figured ok just have the springs compressed, then twist that top nut off, and eveyrthing should come off easy

nope, wrong. The top nut is so rusted in that it just spins the whole thing around. Whole thing meaning as far as i can see, that black thing on the top to cover the springs, and that shiny metal tube in the middle

Spinning that for like 20 minutes didnt get it off, but somehow my springs came off that assembly and off to the side, but still stuck on from that topo and bottom piece holding it in

Idk if that makes any sence, i can get some pictures tommarow, or later tonight if i dont fall asleep soon

Then move onto the front hub. So ive heard, just stick a flathead in the edge of that cap, and get a mallet and hammer it and it should pop off like that. Well i put the screwdriver in and hammered the shit out of it for like 10 minutes and couldnt get it to come off at all. Maybe the flathead isnt sharp enough but idk

Im starting to get really fed up at this shit

anybody got any tips? am i just doing this wrong? I havnt had internet for the past couple days so i havnt been able to really look up how to do this, but theres also not really any writeups that go into depth about what to do with the springs

i have a tip stop working on ur car lol

not but get like a wrench and hold the metal bar so it doesnt spin thats what i always did and it came off

try pullin the nut without compressing the spring and put somthing rubbery around the strut and clamp in with a vice grip as tight as u can it work for me once

or if u dont need the struts just cut that bitch off

you know what your problem is?
you have no idea what you are doing
and im not saying this is be funny or a dick or anything..
like really you need someone that knows what they are doing to help you out

use a torch and heat it up alittle

I agree. You need someone to help you, I see in your posts your making alot of simple mistakes. Isn't anyone near where you live?

i completley agree with you there bro
problem is nobody is down to help me lol, so i end up just going into it hoping i figure it out, since i was always good at that shit when i was little, but i guess not when it comes to working on 14 year old rusted car parts

if any of you guys wanna help, feel completley free to offer, cause i sure as fuck could use the help as you can tell lol

anyways, i tryed getting some cloth and clamping the vice grip around the shiny part of the strut while my friend would use the ratchet or breaker bar to try to do that, even with a bunch of wd40 soaked in there, and the vice grib just kept slipping, and i miade it as tight as possibly possible

if i am reading correctly your trying to get some tein springs off some old struts onto your struts?

if so that nut you speak of on the top should have a place that you can stick an alen or something of the sort into the center of it to hold the strut from spining but allowing you to remove the nut... i dont know i need pics im not much of a reader and your shit makes no sense i can tell that your frustrated... sometimes it just takes a break from it go away for like 30min relax then it will come to you when you go back to it... that has happened to me before.

take the pics now so we can help you get it going now!

^^ yea walk away.....that shit always helps....if anything do it tomorrow wen u have rested and can think more clear

yeah i might, but its midnight and i know as soon as i get off this chair im probably going to fall asleep like instantly

i dont have an impact gun, but ill look for the thing that you say i can stick a wrench on to stop the strut itself from spinning

I fear for you doing this.

Be sure your spring compressors are made for mcpherson "coil over strut" springs. If not, they can slip off.

Also, you should be using an impact.

Just take them to a shop (any shop w/ real mechanics) - they can do this for you quickly and easily. Shouldn't cost too much and you won't have to worry about taking your head off.

slice the nut off and make sure its pointed away from you i took a spring to the ribs a few years back and broke 2 ribs not a fun time.

Godluck homie...ur starting off and doing it urselfeventhough u dont really have a clue....which is good cuz some dudes have cars built by other people or a shop.
The easy way.
Doing shit urself w/ somone to help u is how u learn.

got this pic off google but these are the exact ones im using

Yeah id prefer doing it myself over having sombody else do it, one so i can learn, and two, cause then whats the fun if you dont get to do it?

but i dont like doing it by myself cause its literally by myself other than my friends that dont know anything about cars

im gonna try decompressing the springs a lil so it puts pressure on that black part on the top thats spinning, maybe thatl help

Yes those are the correct ones. You can tell b/c they have the safety pins.

Its fine to want to do things yourself, but an impact is intended to take those nuts off. Also to tighten them down. If you do it by hand, they will come loose.

it's fun to do things yourself but sometimes a mechanic has an advange weither it be in equipment or experiance. you could have been reinstalling the shocks and spring already if you would have taken the old shock and the new shock and just have them switch it over. just my opionion.
