timing???

I think i have a timing problem u guys, my car's idle is varying between 500-800 rite now, and on top of that its running rich. to add to the problem when i drive it in 1st gear it hits 3000rpms and the car begins to jump kind of but it only does this in 1st gear not 2nd or 3rd, havent tried it in 4th or 5th...( idk if that has to do with the timing but i think the other two might) i put the car on top dead center and put the dizzy, but it still seems off just wanted to get some feed back on what u guys might think it the problem or what i should do... :bigthumbu

can you rev the motor past 3k? if you cant then its probably the maf.

get a vacuum gauge and at idle try to get it as hi as possible 20-22 ish
by moving the dizzy

i can rev it past 3 and i can drive it past three after 1st gear

sounds like a vaccum leak to me. running rich and hunting idle is a indicator of a vaccum leak past the maf in maf equiped cars.

Well he just took all his EGR shit off, so I wouldnt be suprised if there was a vaccum leak...
