i bought a car, lost the title, and had never put it into my name before i lost it.
does the previous owner have to write to talahassee or just go to the dmv and ask either way?

please be completely sure cause i dont want to hear mixed answers i just want to do it right and get it over with

thank you guys -pj

Talk to the old owner and ask if he has an old registration for the car. If so it would be easy for him to go to the DMV and get another title. Even if you can't get in touch with the old owner there are ways to get a new title. I know people who had nothing. No title, registration or even an old reciept of title transfer. It will cost more but it can be done.

take him to the dmv with you if possible and if not its gonna be a bitch cause who ever names on that title now is the only one who can apply for a new title.......your other option is to find some one with a tow yard have them impound it for 30 days and then they will have a title

You can get the old owner to fill out some power of attorney paperwork from the DMV that says you're allowed to act on his behalf in getting a new title and transfering it over.

he doesnt have old registration
so i just take him to the dmv and they can print out a new title right there?

no only certain dmv's print out the title on the spot and you have to have the old one what i did with this guy and my truck i bought from him was we went to a tag agency the one i always go to in miami and we fill out some papers that transfers the title into my name and it gets mailed to my house in my name it costed 70 bucks cause he put it as a gift and there were no taxes to pay :bigthumbu

we have nothing exept the previous owner
i can take him to a tag agency or dmv?

anyone?!
