Exiting turn 10 in the morning practice session Tommy Suell spun his car around which threw up a ton of smoke along the line of the track. Katsuhiro Ueo missed the yellow flags at the corners and stayed in his car WOT thinking he would drive through the leads drivers smoke and about 5 to 10 feet from hitting Tommy he finally let off the throttle and smashed Tommy’s car very hard which you can see below.
It was one of the harder hits I’ve ever heard in Formula D history and the cars I didn’t think could make qualifying. Somehow Tommy’s AE86 took the brunt of the force and he was unable to run again but Ueo made it to qualifying shortly after this.
This is the aftermath of Tommy Suell’s door from the contact with Ueo as the car sat on track waiting to get towed off course. Luckily that is Tommy Suell’s passenger side door since his Toyota is RHD or that could of really hurt!
Ueo looked a little shook up but the EMT cleared him so he was able to qualify less than an hour later of the accident. His team at Drift Speed did an amazing job getting the car ready for a proper qualifying form.
