Since i put in the SR20 in my car i noticed ive been leaking tranny fluid.. i figured it was from the output of the tranny to the driveshaft... but its actually coming out from the top where the shifter sits.. i changed the shifter and put a short shifter in it and drove around and noticed the fluid comes up and overfills... its also a wierd color too like a brown color.. has any one had this problem before.. if not any suggestions??

i had the same problem with my ka tranny, my vent tube for the tranny was clogged, i replased it and it worked fine.

how much transmission fluid did you put in. It only calls for 2.5L or quarts or w\e the bottle size is that gear oil comes in.

I have a short shifter in my car, i dont have a huge problem. i smell something sometimes after ive been on the road for over 4 hours but nothing overpowering.

lol are you using a gasket or atleast some rtv or did you just put the shifter straight to the transmission without any gaskets?

also, you arent spose to fill the tranny up with too much fluid, i only put 2 1/4 qts ftw!

oh yea that rubber boot too, i forgot about that, i thought every drifter rocks a stripped interior with no shifter bezel, shift boot, or rubber boot for that hardcore drifter look

I had no inner rubber boot at Ocala and ended up with about a 1.5qts of fluid on my floor. :(

This tranny is the only one that did that though so I'm thinking this breather/clogged thing holds some water too...i'm going to have to check that out. :\

yea my boot was cracked also... yea i put the shifter in with all the necessary gaskets and the bracket it brings.. i cant take the old boot off of the old shifter so im gonna have to get a new one.. yea someone told me to fill the tranny up until u can see it where the shifter sits

i think i basically have every possible problem described in this thread

the proper way to fill the transmission is to pump fluid in through the side fill plug. Once the fluid reaches the proper level it will spill out, no more. But if you do it the more accessable way, through the shifter then you could overfill the transmisison. I would try to open the fill plug on the side of the transmission and see if any fluid drians. After the excess fluid has drained out see if it still happens.

well i found it easier to fill it through the shifter till it spills out the top hole and then cap it off always worked for me o and i believe the plug in on the driver side of the tranny usually it wither a square or a 1/2'' drive ratchet will work on the inward aquare

you and your POS car... just give it to me and buy another mustang.... lol.... well i got my car running now so i can help you fix yours.... i want to change my tranny fluid 2.... if you want lets do it friday.... i work sat and sunday but in off friday.... i dunno ill prob see you later when you come by the house....
