on a serious note besides putting your car in a lake or a pole or something.... you reallllllly need to have a buddy that knows about cars, cause it seems that everytime you touch your car something goes wrong, no offense but its something everyday with your car like the spark plugs... how you did that is behond me... anyways have a friend who knows what the hell he is doing, and take a good hard look at your harness... those types of jurasic changes in your rpm signal and all you other shit really sounds like you have a short in your harness, or its not grounded right or some shit.

unfortunatley im 16 and in highschool, so none of my friends really know anymore than i do, suprisingly i actually know more than most of them

i got one friend who knows a pretty good amount, but hes a senior and hes getting ready for college plus he works, so its not like he has time to help me figure out whats wrong with my car all the time


and for everybody always giving me shit for not knowing what im doing, im sorry but nobody is born knowing how to diagnose and fix problems on a car

NOBODY in my family is into cars, i didnt grow up around them like a lot of fortunate people, ive had no past experience working on them and never had anyone to teach me somthing as simple as changing the oil

everything ive learned ive tought myself through trial and error, researching on the internet, or just by fucking up my car and learning the hard way

ive had really cool people like nate and his roomie come over on their own time on a weekend to help me swap the engine, and that was a good learning experience for me

but for everyone else, unless you want to give me a personal lesson on how everything works and goes together, shut the fuck up unless your gonna give me real advice that will help me and that i can learn from

im really getting sick of the negativity i get from some of you guys

but like devil man posted it looks like it might be a a short or sumthing, check any wiring, spark plug wires(make sure they r pushed in all the way, check ur cap n rotor, u recently changed ur spark plugs check the gap, it could be a couple of things

and this is where I disagree with you. I'm sure you didn't do enough research because if you did you could figure it out. When I was your age I did my first motor swap with two friends and none of us had done a swap before, all I had was a Haynes and the internet.

I dont see how you can sit here and tell me that i dont do that when i actually do. Im sure if i looked 10 hours straight with time that i dont have through every webpage on nico i could probably find somthing out, but i did about an horus worth of searching on my own time through google and nico and different forums, and i learned a little bit but it still didnt help me figure out what could be wrong.

Alright i know that you guys cant fix my car through a forum and that im supposed to majically have friends that can help me with this kind of shit, but thats not what im asking. All im asking is for opinions with some of you guys like yoruself who know a lot more about this stuff than i do and point me in the right direction and try to help me out

And actually i wouldnt mind trading my car for another running 240 thats not a POS, but its kinda hard trading a POS for a non POS, and plus i kind of have an attachment with my car it being my very first car, and (believe it or not:rolleyes: ) all the work that ive put into it whether im replacing, fixing, or just wasting my time trying to figure out whats wrong for countless hours

If your not trying to be a dick, your not doing a good job because your really coming off as one. All the questions ive asked (except for maybe a few that you cant really search for) i HAVE tryed to look on NICO or the internet period for people who have previously had the problem

somtimes i get lucky and find a thread with what happend and how they diagnosed and fixed it and i can figure it out on my own. Other times, i can find a little bit of info, but i dont know enough about the subject to be able to put all the information together and diagnose or fix the problem on my own.

right now im on that second situation and i really wish some of you could be more helpful than you are

yup its an s14 engine but my car is an s14 lol
the only thing is i think the engine was from a 96 so its OBD2 meanwhile my cars a 95 (obd1), but we didnt swap anything electrical or any of that. i asked the dude that helped me with the swap, he told me to check injectors and shit but he couldnt think of anything ecu related or any of that. I remember the only thing we had to do for the swap was swap out part of the intake manifold and fuel rail and the water temp sensor

if anyone wouldnt mind me borrowing it for just quick enough to test, i wanna try putting another OBD1 ECU in and seing how it runs, cause im gonna try to solve this by process of elimination

i already put different spark plugs again, my old wires from the engine never gave me problems, and i just changed the fuel filter to a z32 one today

on another note the car also dies out a lot more like it does in that video, and its pretty rough



Are all your grounds in place?

Is your ecu plugged in all the way (bolt tight?)?

the grounds should all be in place, i didnt know what i was doing when i finished the last 20% of the engine swap by myself, but i brought it to a shop and they hooked up everything that needed to be and corrected minor mistakes i made

the ecu harness was in fine last time i checked when i first put the new engine in (they were trying to communicate with the computer and left that plastic panel open), but ill go ahead and double check it again later on tonight

possibly but i dont see why it would do anything other than drain the battery, then again i could be completley wrong and a bad alty could cause a bunch of other electrical issues

but just because im a little bit slower with understanding things doesnt mean some of you have to be complete d-bags about it. I understand some of it is just joking and some of it isnt. sure its just over the internet and i dont take it personal, but holy fuck it can get annoying when you just want a straight forward answer without everyone getting all butthurt and immature about the fact that i dont have a genral basic mechanical knowledge that most car guys would have

i try to learn as much as i can from everything, and yes i actually DO do my own research, whether some of you belive it or not. Theres only so much a kid can teach himself without any experience or anyone around him to guide him to tell him what hes doing wrong and right, especially when your clearly not natural with it

I apologize for my other so called "Men", Everyone starts somewhere some of us just got lucky and have a good mechanical background, and some arnt so lucky. I wish you the best of luck with your problem, and if you cant fix the problem PM me if your close to Pembroke Pines or so and ill try and make it out on my day off and check it out. Just one piece of advice, i saw that you mentioned you didnt swap over the harness from the new motor, or the ecu. You might wanna get your hands on a 96 ecu if thats what the motor came from, you never know if its a ob1 ecu and a ob2 motor you just might be getting wrong signals from the sensors in the motor, try and get someone with a ob2 ecu. My ecu is from a 95 so i cant help ya there, but i know an EXCELLENT mechanic that has the experience to back himself up, again pm me for his info, he just did my block and it came back riding smother than ever

then you use YOUR COMMON SENSE!
ok seriously, what do you need for your car to run OR AN engine to run?

air
fuel right?

ok. i suggest you first spend 20mins of your precious time downloading the FSM for your s14.

then you start by checking for spark....
get a screw driver and set it the driver strut mount, pull a sparkplug wire out and set it real close to it but leaving a gap in such a way that when you turn on the car youll see the spark
check all wires for spark
check all spark plugs
check dizzy and dist cap.
check timing. on distributor. it could be off.
if all spark is ok then check maf with a voltoometer.
check your injectors.
the lines and the fuel pressure.
check your grounds with volt ometer.
change your ecu with someone to check see if is your ecu.
get a flathead and check the ecu codes.
the ecu codes can be found on NICO! or goofle.
once you check all that, you should have found the problem and solved it.

thats what i would do.
