Ive been hearing a lot of pros and cons for both. Wut do u guys think is the better option???

IMO weld if its a strict drift/track car, LSD if you acutally plan to daily it.

I've owned posi/ LSD cars but never a welded but I may plan to go welded on my MKIII when I finally decide to redo the head gasket on it.

how broke are you? If you cacn afford a LSD get it if you can't weld it. If you daily with a welded diff your gonna run through tires quicker and it gets annoying real quick but its great on the track. I run a LSD and i had a welded diff before its alot better to have a LSD.

Ive ran welded on 3 of my cars and Daily driven all of them

Welded is not that bad at all.

Weld it, its awesome, you will never look back.

Ive had a Kaaz 2way also, and prefer welded over it.

BMW LSD FTW seriously Ive ridden in cars with LSD's that are no different from welded diffs they lock so hard and they ping and clank and jerk the car around at low speeds

driving my car around town you'd never know it has an LSD or anything but as soon as you bust them loose it locks up and feels smooth as silk

I feel ya PINER...

Ive had my GTS AE86 with a 2 way TRD LSD and its just the odd noise that makes u think that shits broken...
BUT i dont have any experience w/ welded diffs YET.
My current AE86 will get welded up.

IMHO for u to learn as much as u can and gain experience...weld the rear end...
meanwhile save for an aftermarket LSD, that u know u wont destroy as bad as if u had no drift skill/knowledge at all...
Buy it when u know ur ready for that spendature homie...MOO

welded is cool, but lsd is better. Welded is just a temporary answer until the money can be saved for a clutch type

welded all the way! you dont have to overhaul a welded like you do to a LSD

thats a pretty ignorant statement, welded diff can break and leave you stranded, unless you drive around with a spare diff. How many of the indy cars, lemans cars, d1 cars, or any professional series (except drag racing) run on a welded diff.:bigthumbu

^ he wasn't saying that a welded diff wont break (although it shouldn't if it was welded correctly).
he was saying it requires no maintenance compared to an LSD. no expensive frequent oil changes.

as a matter of fact i do have a spare diff just in case, as far as being stranded its called AAA. beside its just my opinion so please don't judge me on it. they asked for an opinion on the matter and i answered with mine.

bushido... good lookin out

it will break, constanct friction ..lol..... it will last if welded right, but it will break one day. I change my Vlsd fluid once a year, thats like 15 bucks once a year, yes it needs maintenance but what doesnt. you think you wont have to change the oil on the welded? I have doen a shit load of drift event and countless hours of street drifting and my vlsd is still kicking. Like i said before a welded diff is just an alternative until money is saved and the proper diff can be bought. Oh yeah welded sometime leads to broken axels..lol... So, because is your opinion you will guide someone into doing the wrong thing... is like saying; "yeah cocaine all the way, you dont have to open it like a can of redbull to get energized, you just inhale it" and thats my opinion....

well from what i understand broken axles if from too much grip from the tires. and VLSD aren't the same as a 1.5 or 2 way lsd. vlsd dont engage as well as welded or 2way but its way cheaper to maintain than a 2way. just my 2 cents

YEP, they dont engaged as well, but like I keep on saying, a welded, a vlsd, a helical are just alternative until enough money is saved to buy a clutch type. Yes, they are more expenssive to maintain, but is a whole diff world... i have drifted cars with welded, vlsd and clutch, i must say that the tight transsition with the welded diff were a bit harsh, understeer was created, the clutch was almos the same but it was more predictible, the vlsd which is the one i have in my car sucks, but i compensate by going faster and suspension setup.

true. you layed it out pretty much

if its strickly a track car start with a welded...but plan to eventually go lsd...especially for bigger tracks or if its a DD
