Whats your suggestion?

Well, I am not really that old and nor do I have the cash to come up with the high insurance and car money in Miami. So this leaves to get stuck with my mom buying a vehicle for me, and she is really keen on not having me fix up a older car. (I tried in so many ways to persuade for a 240sx or perhaps a 5th edition rx-7) So I come to all of you for any suggestions on vehicles that are relatively newer and reliable.(that don't look like wierd/funky which the newer cars look like)

Thanks alot everyone.

1994 toyota corolla.. its bad @$$..... if u want it let me know.. its got cold ac..good stereo and every thing.

That would be okay, but my mom wants some new basically. So I was wondering what is currently out on the market that is a decent car?

Woah.. Jeremy why are you pointing him in the direction of front wheel drive?

Anyway... for 20k you can get a nice little Mini cooper S, handles well, gets great gas mileage, amazingly high resale value... the car is just way to practical for its own good lol.

a Solstice is about 20k but it's domestic and to new to know about reliability

Toyota MR2 < 20k or < 10k for the previous gen

Newer 240sx < 10k (kouki :D)

if you have to get a brand new car, that is relatively cheap.. get an Acura RSX- Type S. nothing else in that category can compare. If you can get a 01-05 new car, get an S2K or G35 or the Civic SI Hatchback. not really that many decent cars out. stay away from sentras and srt4's, you will have more headaches and trips to the dealership than you need in one life time

another decent car to look at that is pretty cheap and quick is the Toyota Corolla XRS 6sp celica gt-s motor and tranny and they had a deal when i was getting mine that you get free tires for life when you buy it. only thing i didn't like about it was that it had a rev limiter at 7400rpm in 1st so you couldnt really get all that 1st gear vvti to 9grand. definately worth a test drive though the car handles AMAZING.

S2ks run about 22-25k used and a G35 coupe is 25-30k used.

I agree Stay FAR away from the SE-R... they are poorly built I know a few people who have them and they always have to go get crap fixed...

all the prices i've seen for them were 17-23 ranging from 00-04... same with G35s, but good luck finding a manual with brembo brakes, without that the g35 is worthless IMO

FYI: Mustang is the chapeast rwd off the showroom floor. Not that I'd point you to get one, but if rwd is a huge part of your decision making.... the v6s start at $17k.

Kouki model is decent, but I prefer Chuki. :p

The above cars that everyone suggested all look good. I am wondering tho how much I can get my mom to spend (I will be chipping in about 3k of my own cash, more then likely, and be in debt for awhile to her) Personally the Acura RSX looks like a good choice but the price tag is what is worrying me. She wants to spend mid-10thousands and the mini-cooper was a fun vehicle and I played around with the idea when it was re-released...but of course she wants a "safe" car. lol Needless to say, her teaching me manual on her Mustang was a good start to my love of manual and interests in drifting.

Eventually when I can on my own, I will make myself a car like a 240sx. I just have to put that idea on hold. :(

Besides the Acura, the Scion tC looked decent....*shrug*

*edit to respond to above post*
rwd is not really my decision maker since I highly doubt any car I land with will be a good drifting car. Like I said tho, I started out on a Mustang....my only complaint about them is that their clutch is the]/b] hardest I have ever used.
*edit*

Sadly I can't, that is already a 10year old car and my mom wants something new.

Her idea is that she wants to get me a new car that will last without any problems for atleast 6-7 years, instead of me being away in college and then calling her up out of the blue because my car crapped out and I need a expensive repair somewhere. I tried to challenge that with the fact that I would already have made a lare overhaul of the vehicle and that should not happen; but she is still a parent and thus does not listen >_<

well what makes her so sure that new cars wont have problems? i use to work at Nissan and all the cars that came in had problems, except the ones that wanted an oil change. and they were all BRAND NEW

Don't ask me *shrug* Parents are illogical sometimes.

She of course keeps looking at something that is hideous, a Toyota Yaris. Mainly because it is cheap.....
2007 release date... I dislike the car, but I guess whatever she lands on and gets me...
The saying goes, "Don't look a gift horse in the mouth." *sigh* wheels are wheels....

I say push for the Mini.. it's a fun safe little go-cart that gets like 40mpg has room for friends and can be sold down the road for the same price you paid and sometimes more (crazy.. I know)

FWD-Acura RSX-Type-S, Bladder informed me about there 6-speed being very short and not very good for daily but awesome for track days, if you want auto you have to settle for the non type-s version, Bladder also thinks the new civic Si is better???? I work at Toyota now and the Scion TC, if it wasnt FWD thats the car I would buy, the interior, exterior, shifting is all smoooth and extremely well built(besides the plastic oil dipstick), of course thats just toyota, you cant go wrong. Also the Motor is an S13 KA with vvt-i b/s lol.

RWD-Saturn Sky same **** as the Pontiac Solstice but different body and interior, I havent drove one but they look bad *** and Feel bad ***, Only problem is Its GM made and i dont trust GM worth a crap unless its an F-Body LOL....2nd Gen Miata car is just nice all around, (Mini Piston Verions FD), and of corse the ALLMIGHTY Honda S2000!!!!!! Also the 350Z "hint hint" LOL

AWD, pff this isnt hard WRX or STi only problem is the tranny's, and also the EVO, I personaly dont like Mitsubishi, but dont let my Biased satement of Mitsubishi not make you buy the car, go test drive it its always the best way.

Luxury-Lexus GS, ****ING AWESOME, of course the Lexus IS, and my personal Favorite the Lexus SC300....

There is a CRAP loads of other cars to choose from, the Internet is an AWESOME tool, every car manufactor has a website, look around, make a list of what you think will like, and go test drive them.

One Suggestion, Try and stay away from "drive by wire", Stupid invention to an automobile ever made, I cant stand it, i think it just takes some time to get use to it.
