whoa asian people got it bad in cali as car tuners...

I dunno its bad enough that there already crushing cars there (which has adopted into a new law in the state of Florida) but now there gonna harass people for modifying there cars! wtf...what happened to all that your not allowed to search my car without a warrant bull****...all this is, is another way for cops to take **** from people, harass them, and easier for them to make there quota!...thats the way I see it. What sucks is that half of these guys that are cops were enthusiast as well or probably still are...im going to check this out, its probably all just a conspiracy into forcing people to buy american cars!!!

hmmm i like this crap i found...

Street racing is illegal. The CHP won't hesitate to take street racers to court.

A first conviction on a street racing violation means:

Minimum county jail sentence of 24 hours and maximum of 90 days.
Vehicle probably impounded for at least 30 days.
Owner responsible for vehicle's towing and storage charges ($1,000 or more).
If owner fails to pay, vehicle could be sold at a lien sale.
Anyone who aids or abets a street race also faces a maximum 90-day jail sentence.
Instead, take your car to a National Hot Rod Association-sanctioned track or drag strip, where you can race safely under optimum conditions.

"Nots" for the Hots

Illegal equipment most often cited by the CHP:

Loud car stereo.
Illegal if heard more than 50 feet from the vehicle
(27007 VC).
Lack of front and rear DMV-issued license plates
(5200 VC).

Radar jammers. Radar detectors are legal, but jammers, or any device which interferes with radar signals, are illegal (28150 VC).

Illegal...

Lowered frame (or any other part) that is lower than the lowest point of the wheel rim (24008 VC).
Air and hydraulic suspension systems that are operated unsafely or with the vehicle lower than allowed (24002, 24008 VC).
Tinting the front side windows and the windshield (except for a narrow band at the top of the windshield). Windows behind the driver's head may be tinted. If rear window is tinted, right-side mirror is required (26708 VC).
Lack of white rear license plate light (24601 VC). It must illuminate the license plate, not project light behind the vehicle.
Missing front and/or rear bumpers (28071 VC).

Illegal engine modifications. Most are illegal due to smog (27156 VC). See Air Resources Board web site for more info and list of parts that are legal.

Blue and yellow headlights. Headlights must be white - blue and yellow are illegal (24011 VC). Look for the DOT symbol on the bulb and package.
Headlights brighter or higher wattage than those from the factory. You may be able to see better, but the lights are illegal (24011 VC).
Tail lights other than red (24600 VC).
Illegal brake lights. Brake lights on vehicles newer than 1979 must be red (24603 VC). (Vehicles older than 1979 may be red or yellow.)
Lack of rear reflectors. Two red reflectors are required on the rear of cars and trucks (24607 VC).
Incorrect color of turn signal. It must be white or yellow to the front, red or yellow to the rear (24953 VC).
Red lights to the front. They are illegal except on emergency vehicles (24003 VC).
Tail lights that incorporate a bulb with a red tint or coating. In general, custom tail lights that incorporate a clear outer shell and red inner lens are legal (24011 VC). If they don't incorporate reflectors, they must be added to the vehicle (24607 VC).
Tail lights that are too dim, washed out or show yellow, white or other colors (24600 VC).
Illegal color of side marker lights. If present, must be yellow in the front and red in the rear (25106, 24003 VC).
Driving with just parking lights on (24800 VC). Vehicles that have factory-installed automatic daytime running lights must meet federal requirements and are legal.
Illegal decorative lights (24003 VC). All flashing decorative lights are illegal (25250 VC).
Illegal windshield washer nozzle lights. Only white or yellow are allowed. (25106 VC, 24003 VC).

Lights attached to tire valves (24003, 25250 VC).
Lighted license plate frames (unless red) (24003 VC).
Illegal lights, whether or not they are operating. It is illegal just to have them on the vehicle (24003 VC).

Excessively noisy exhaust systems and mufflers (27150, 27151 VC). Many aftermarket exhaust systems and parts are illegal. Look for parts that meet California law. If it doesn't say it meets the law, it probably doesn't.

Exhaust systems which meet smog requirements but are still too loud. Exhaust equipment that states it is, "Legal in all 50 states," refers to smog, not noise.
Note: New law (27150.2 VC) does not require law enforcement to use sound level meters to test for excessive noise. Citation is based on officer's judgment. Cited violators may have testing done at smog referee stations or may be directed by the court to have testing done. Vehicles in violation must be brought into compliance. A fine may also be imposed.

Wow...wtf.

Ive heard of that before, but now theyre cracking down even further...see, thats why Ill NEVER move to Cali. **** Cali. SoFla owns in that perspective. Jones, is right, theyre doing that so cops have an easier time making their quota. Plus they must be bored. Faggots. If that happens here sooner than when I move to Japan, then Im out before my ETA.

Damn I saw this in another forum. That sucks such a great place to live (the mountains, touge runs, famous race tracks, beaches, etc) ruined by cops and basically stupid laws. They waste money on this when they have more important things to worry about. Car Enthusiast have had a long history in Cali. I remember reading in magazine that in San Diego, (I believe its that city but for sure in California) after a car show cops swarmed the place with tow trucks and cruisers blocked off the exits. Tons of "fix-it" tickets were given out and cars were impounded. Thats just not right. Why do they treat every car enthusiast like crimals? I would love to ask a cop that and hear their response.

i'm prety sure they'll say some thing likt "if you have the equipment to go faster then you should, then you will" or some other bs like "i dont make the laws, i just enforce them"

I've heard about that story as well. I saw pictures and video of it. The organizers of the event had an agreement with the San Diego police. Seems like the San Diego police backstabbed them. Either way the cops will just tell you they were doing their jobs.

The fact of the matter is, the situation in California is getting worse, and it's spreading throughout the country. From people in Lexus RX330's getting pulled over and ticketed for their STOCK clear-lens taillights. To a Lancer Evolution owner getting ticketed for his stock rear spoiler. If other states adopt San Diego's policies, I can see it affecting the aftermarket industry heavily. Something needs to be done about this.

well the only thing I could sit here and say would be for some of the guys in cali to get together and petition this law or rally against it...its kind of ridiculous to ticket someone for a modification...First off there going to say that there trying to get racing off the street...if they want to get it off the street so bad then how come they dont help the situation by making legal tracks or by donating back streets to it...I mean in all reality it might never happen but never will street racing. Its a few people out there who do stupid things that are screwing it up for everyone else. How is it unlawful to modify your car when the police are modifing theres? They have so much thats it ridiculous...I know alot of it is for safety and to protect...I have no problem with a police officer upholding the law and doing his job. But come on, the way things are going now its just getting out of hand...pretty soon we wont be able to buy a car from japan. Pretty soon there going to have a law that says were only allowed to by domestics if **** keeps going this way! The government and local parties are just getting stupid with it, you have a bunch of old fags up in the office that used to race there mustangs and chevelles down back roads and are now upset because they see 350z and supras in there place. I dunno about you but if something doesnt change about this now things are just going to get worst down the road!!!

Yeah I see what your saying but if thats true what about Sti's, Evo, Ferraris, Lambos, Vettes the list goes on and on. They sell those cars that can reach high speeds and some cases ridiculous high speeds. Hey I'm not complaing about those cars, I love each one of them. I'm just making a point by saying they really have no reason to do that, to profile any lowered Asian car. I hate to say it but it sounds alittle racist to me. I see American pick up trucks lifted way above the regulations permit and thats a lot more dangerous than a lowered car for obvious reasons, Harleys that are too damn loud that not even the most annoying fart can could reach that sound. But the instant they see a lowered import they swarm them.

They even harass stock Asian cars like the Evo and Sti. I heard of a cop profile an Sti and let him off when he saw the guy driving "didnt meet the profile." The guy was around 45-50. I speak from expericance been stopped too many times for nothing. I dont drive reckless, not a street racer, etc. I remember seeing how pissed they got when they had nothing to hold me on, which was every single time. Funny thing is I respect what they do but when it comes to this sorta stuff it gets me pissed off. Sorry for my rant and thanks for reading.

bro nothing you say is considered a rant. I have to agree with you, the companies are coming out with all these cars and the states are doing two things. There ticketing and making more money from these laws n such and there taking some of these cars like the camaro and the new magnums (which I hear will be made into the new police cars) dropping ls1 motors (cmon thats a freaking vette motor) and say that if we modify our cars by putting an intake and a fart cannon that were breaking the laws...makes sense? not to me!!

I agree with the direction of this thread. The police are appearing to be hypocrites. And after reading that article and Redline's anecdote, it's evident that the CHP utilizes a ticket-quota system. I don't see why anyone doesn't intervene -- anybody who enjoys cars will be susceptible. I don't really think its about vehicular prejudice, in my opinion, perhaps its just an anti-pollution tactic gone haywire, but it's apparent that some asshole is putting this anti-anything-cool-about-cars campaign out of proportion. And I hope it's not Schwarzenegger.

well its not only cali thats getting bad, it seems that w.e. laws cali comes with florida adapts...for example cali was the first state to initiate the law for car crushing if you have been ticketed or arrested for street racing too many times...and lord and behold guess who was the second state...yup florida! so dont feel too bad because we might be in the same boat as well sooner or later!

Not if they realize it has too many faults. If someone high enough be it a statesman or a car manufacturer makes a stand and realizes that this can easily be the grounds of controversy and / or affect car sales, they won't go that far. Makes me wonder, though: they didn't do this in thes with all the muscle cars, so why do they have to do it now?

yea thats true but remember the manufactuers arent going to say anything yet because it hasnt affected them yet. right now the top three manufactuers of cars in america is not even american so there juicing it as much as they can...once laws start going against there cars then yea they will have something to say!

for some reason american muscle has always had it easier...I see mustangs with there flowmasters making all types of noise and a cop wont even look twice...but they see a civic with a shiny apc fartcannon and they have a field day...perfect example go to tower shops on a friday and see who the cops always mess with!!! guarantee you it wont be domestics!

Okay, first off I highly doubt there is going to be any law that is going to ban everyone from buying foreign cars. Foreign car companies have many factories in this country and if that were to happen, I expect a lot of people getting layed off. The result of that would cause harm to the economy. Second, there have been petitions setup but it hasn't been enough. If they really made an impact, we would see changes by now. I'm pretty sure the aftermarket tuners make up a good chunk of the US population. Would be interesting to see a big march into Washington. Third, auto manufacturers always adjust to the market. If they see fast cars aren't selling, they'll focus on something else. Auto manufacturers care only about one thing, money. Fourth, what is really the purpose of law enforcement to deny us of modifying our vehicles? If it's to prevent us from making our cars faster, whats stopping auto manufacturers from making their cars faster?

It won't be laws. If at most it'll be changes in the DOT rules and regulations that auto manufacturers are required to follow to sell their vehicle into this country.

i agree with you bladder, The whole forbidding us to buy imports was just an example to show how bad things are getting, im not saying its going to get that bad! but things arent going good! I wouldnt want to get tickets because my car is lower because i bought coilovers to make my car handle better, or an exhaust to get a little better hp and torque from the motor! What im saying is that things are getting to the point were every car that has a few mods made to it is going to be targeted for cities to make money and lets face it a majority of enthusiats/ricers/racers/drifters w.e. you want to call it are young people. We do this because we like it and its a culture, but why should the culture suffer because cities want to make a few bucks off us!

out of all the times i've ever been pulled over and ticketed never once have the police said anything about any mods on my car... and as soon as they do I am going to jail because Ima backtalk the **** out of him lol
