Why I will be boycotting D1GP, and you should too.

D1 has some false statements and FD gives all there trophies to DA.

Mikes just mad D1 ain't paying TX dudes to go to events this year!

First off im gonna have to say is Mike I respect you as a driver and a voice in the drift community. But I agree with Juan and any one else who is die hard into drifting. I for one have been into drifting since 2001 and I started actually drifting in 02 do you know how I found out and got into drifting? I downloaded d1 videos off the internet via lime wire before youtube. I flew out to cali in 03 with Harri to watch the first domestic pro drifting championship. Thats right FIRST and I quote "With a sellout crowd of ten thousand, which broke record for the venue and the series, this venue became the series' opening round in 2004 and has since been expanded to capacities fifteen thousand spectators". So they were in america first that is a no brainier. So don't you think they have the right to run there series as they see fit as well as how they promote it. THEY GAVE US THE SPORT FOR GODS SAKES!!! The comparative chart on wrecked mag is far from fictional the only argument that formula D has is D1s dvd sales and the fact that all of formula Ds TV series have sucked ass and did get canceled. Mud bog racing is more fun to watch than a formula D broadcast that's why they have never been able to go prime time. Until the drift king himself walks into my shop and slashes my tires and kick me in the balls I will continue to support this sports founding fathers. No driver that's driving in America today has the legendary status in the sport as the OG D1 drivers when I flew out to see D1 vs Japan in 04 the us drivers were even getting there autographs. What this all boils down too is America got thrown a bone and now they want to act like they invented the damn sport. People need to stop crying about how much money D1 is making charging and using and look at the fact that without them there would be no drifting. I for one pray this series makes it cause ever since D1 left and gave the rains to FD drifting has sucked. Its almost imposable to get a FD license at least at D1 you show up qualify and drive with the best. Id rather pay a little fee into one of the top drifting organizations than suck DAs dicks and drift in pro am for 5 years to prove myself. The facts are is that both series have there hick ups and no series wont. Why? Because drifting is a judged sport and with that comes a lot of politics. So my vote is and always will be with D1. I'm not bashing you mike or anyone who sees his point of view this is just mine so lets all get along and push the sport forward. If we should boycott anyone it should be wrecked for biting the hand that feeds it.

after the judgement call on Bill Sherman vs Chris Fosberg I realize that is who u know in FD... Rhys Millen keeps having issues with the Judges at FD specially wen he goes against a DA driver. dont get me wrong, I like DA and I'm friends with JR but fact is that I seen this and I'm not alone.

the BS that D1 said vs FD is called "MARKETING" we see it all the time in TV commercials, paper adds like: Energizer vs Duracell, Bounty vs Brawny, and so on.

If that was a big deal how about the stuff FD said against NOPI wen they came to the sport, I even heard of FD telling licensed drivers that if they participate in NOPI that FD holds the right to take the FD license from that driver... oh and ask Blake Fuller about his FD experience wile he was in FD and NOPI and the poor judgement to show people that one of the best NOPI drivers cant stand in FD. and don't get me started on poor judging with me and my NOPI round 1 at Moroso West Palm cause that we all know what happened... right Mike?

So here is my take, I will support both venues because I love the sport, its my passion, I enjoy every bit of it and I want it to blow up like NASCAR did. Sadly it all goes back to the stupid argument we had years ago in this forum... MONEY & POLITICS.

i support this 100%
plus last time i check FD dosent come down to south fl so i will support whatever comes to me that includes HIN nopi D1 and watch fD on the tv

People need to learn whenever money is involved, politics ensues. I hate to break it to some of you but the world revolves around $.

People need to stop crying about how much money D1 is making charging and using and look at the fact that without them there would be no drifting

There is nothing more sad then someone who is constantly whining about money / costs.

Again +1. Im old enough to remember all the forgotten trends. Everytime something goes from underground to main stream, there are always what seems to be the same group of people whining about how its now all about the money, and they cant afford to do it anymore blah blah blah. You guys need to realize drifting is just a fad, it will never be more than it is for the simple reason that there is no way to quantitive way measure it outside of some judges opinion. Hence we where given the drift box, that IMO could have single handedly saved the sport but again a bunch of people whined about it,

Past fads included but not limited to
5.0 mustangs
Hondas
Import drag racing
Trance / Techno
Pogs
Pokemon
Beanie Babies

Etc

You guys need to stop worrying about politics, and start having fun drifting again. Until you have your own series that is... then you can worry about politics all you want.

I agree, whoever takes the time to come down here should get our support. At the end of the day the sport grows which is what we need. Although I don't agree with the lie's that D1 put out. No need to lie, everyone knows that D1 Pwn's FD no matter what....

Drifting is not a fad it is an industry(a multi-million, perhaps billion dollar industry actually. Globally speaking.), a motorsport and a market, and it is growing. yes it may be hitting hiccups as most young industries do. Saying that drifting will fail due to the fact that it is the only judged motorsport is just silly. In the past 5 years the 'drift scene' (god I hate using that phrase) locally and nationally has exploded. I imagine in 5 years we will look back and make the same statement...

The bias opinions/judging may make it disappointing at times, but certainly does not mean it will fail as a motorsport/industry/hobby/passion etc...

If that were the case then no judged event would be successful in any industry.

ex:
Extreme sports (surfing/fmx/bmx/skateboarding etc...)
Boxing/ufc
AKC
so on and so forth...

/rant.

.

As Vas said, Keep Drifting Fun. Simple as that, everybody knows the hicups and flaws of both series, but is that really a reason to attempt to shut down the main series, even if its a sub division, that brought a lot of drifting to the USA?

since i cant quote from my phone. Need i remind you bill also protested a judgement call with D1 last year in maimi. Its a judged sport its something yoyur gonna have to live with. Ive not been impressed by D1 yet. FD was always been awesome big events not just parking lot nopi style event

and d1has to let anyone drive in their events. They havent been able to do a series long enough repeatedly to form a driver base and create feeder series. Remember FD used to allow anyone that paid to drive too.

Fad? :( I'm out of the loop then. <3 Techno

On the subject of the subject, its not libel but its not kosher either. It is definitely some shit slinging, 100% bias marketing. Personally though, idc. I always thought FD was kinda...fake? Like a middle america teen trying to act like Paris Hilton. She may deserve to be a bit of a diva but she's trying too hard and everyone knows it.

I love techno too, when i was refering to techno, it was not in the fad sense but more circa 99-01 when it became more mainstream and people started hating that others where making money on it.
