help with grants and financial aid!!

financial aid = loans

grants usually carry prerequisites. the fin aid dept at the university will let you know what you qualify for.

financial aid is not a loan
financial aif is exactly that, and grants are given to u by the gov't, and a loan is given to you by a bank or other creditor.
If you can try to stay away from loans, cuz then you have a shit load of money to pay back when u get done with school... at least with financial aid and grants its money you dont have to pay back, but you gota keep up your grades...gl

dont forget that if you get a student loan, you have up to 30 years to pay it back, you start paying right after you graduate with your degree and you can write the interest off on your taxes.

you can write the interest off on your taxes.

wait, what?

shit are you serious. I need to get info on this asap! Best thing I've ever done is to take out a loan to study abroad in Europe :bigthumbu But of course now I got some interest to pay off. If I can write it off when I do my taxes that would be awesome

I get a federal pell grant for college. Prerequisite for that is just that you make too low of a income to live off of.

You get a range from $2,400 (12 creds & up) to $500 (4 creds and below)

look it up, loans are considered financial aid.

yes loans are considered a form of financial aid, however financial aid is not a loan... if you go through fafsa and you qualify, then you get a certain amount of money to help with school that doesnt have to be paid back. Both of my sisters have used fafsa and havent had to pay anything back and I am using it riht now. But fafsa and grants DO have requirements that u have to meet and continue meeting them, if ur grades drop you lose the money. but fafsa doesnt cover all your cost, but it is helpful
lol on another note, miami drifter, u gotta take those bmpc stickers off raffis old doors that company doesnt exist anymore

i dont know what financial aid you are looking up but i get it through fafsa at my school and it says in the paperwork that it doesnt have to be paid back, thats why they told me to get it over a loan, and its a friend of mine that works in the office so he wouldnt screw me.... also my sisters both got financial aid through college and never had to pay back anything... but maybe there are other types of financial aid that i am unaware of... not trying to say you are wrong tony but i have never heard of it... but regardless make sure you do your research and cover ur ass

financial aid is any aid that you use to pay for any secondary schooling after HS. the financial aid that you are referring to are govt grants or scholarships. loans are considered financial aid that you must pay back and you can write the interest off on your taxes. Some scholarships require you to pay them back if you do not meet the expected standards of the scholarship. Some scholarships are even considered additional income which you should be putting down in your taxes each year. Even FAFSA, if you fuck up would require you to pay them back, (like accepting the monies but not going to school or taking the required classes).

theres lots of strings attached. there is no such thing as "free money". You either get a pell grant based on your income level but requires you to go to 4 classes (12 credits or more) a semester. (a waste of gas money and sometimes they dont even cover tuition and books.) then you have the Bright futures scholarship which is basically free money, but you have to make the grade to get it (2.75 lowest) and take at least 6 credits (2 classes) and get a 950 to get the lowest bright futures award and they only cover tuition and if you get the highest award it only gives you 300 (250 last i heard) for book money which only covers like two books, so if you fucked up in HS and you are above the FAFSA level then you dont have monies to go to college. Even with scholarships that go with ethnicity people are not going to give you monies if they think that their monies are going to 'waste' thats why the govt and privately owned companies come up with student loans. its still considered a form of financial aid but its the kind that gives people who dont make the grade or income level the chance to go to college. the govt is very lenient about student loans. they even give you tax breaks!

if loans were not considered financial aid there should not be brochures of them in the financial aid office.

why should you believe anything i say on this matter?

i practically lived in the financial aid office my first 2 years at edison college Collier campus. I'm actually good friends with Frank G. the financial aid advisor there and it was he who gave me the information i needed to find a loop hole in the bright futures scholarship so that they were required to pay for both my BA and BS at FGCU. I received plenty of scholarships and I made the grades but still didnt qualify for any pell grants or what you consider "financial aid" because my parents and i were about 3000 above the level of need so i got nothing.

you right though. if you can get pell grants and bright futures you dont need to pay them back unless you screw up. loans should always be your last resort if you cant get anything else.

oh and FAFSA financial aid (pell grants and such) require that you hold a minimum 2.0 and attend all classes and must have your teacher sometimes verify that you attended class.

oh all the work you need to do to get monies to go to college! PM me if you want more details.

most of which are need based. If you are broke and can prove it, you should come up decent.

First you need to get INTO school. if your talking bout mdc all you really need to do is write your name and you're str8. If you are talking about a serious university... yeah buddy might wanna check out some english classes among other things.

If you do get in then go to fafsa.gov and fill out, but hurry cause for next year fafsa needs to be turned in by feb 20-something.

Good luck?

are you just anal or do you hate being wrong? If you read the thread, the only reason I said anything was b/c the op said he didn't want loans, just financial aid. I cleared that up for him. FAFSA is just an application for aid. Your sisters have been using grants if they don't have to pay anything back - not FAFSA.
