Yo Im having a bitch of a time removing the front lower control arm. I unbolted everything but the balljoint is stuck. Ive tried hammering it and using a pickle fork but it wont even budge. Also soaked it in PB Blaster for a few hours and put on a big ass pipe on the fork to get more leverage but nothing.

Any tips/ideas would be appreciated

Bang on the part around the hole that the ball joint goes into.

That and heat it with a torch has always worked for me.

does the pickle fork have different sized heads? try a different size if it does, if not just do what he said, put the fork in ther and hammer it good itll pop out

Tie rod fork, bang bang done. Never had one I couldn't get out and I've worked on hundreds of cars.

no,no,no!!!

u need a BIGGER FUCKN HAMMER!

oh and u cant have a pussy behind that hammer either

:werd: I tried heating it with a torch to no avail. I just spent 1 hour and a half driving all over town looking for a bigger hammer. Tried Ace Hardware, Home Depot, even Pep Boys and nothing. The biggest one I could find was like 3-4 lbs and they wanted like 20 bucks for it wtf. Ima try a another hardware store tomorrow and put some more elbow grease on it tonite....

Thanks for the replies. Time to go hammer it some more

last time what i did was jack up the car and put a jack stand under the hub then lower the car a little so the jackstand is supporting the hub. this way when u hit the control arm the hub wont move at all. a little movement when u hit it can cause it not to come apart. then i got a 5lb mini sledge and went to town took me like 15 mins a side of some monster beating. i was 305lbs and put all my weight behind it and it finaaly came off lol.

GOOD LUCK!

u dont need a huge hammer and a short one isnt gonna help u need the leverage to swing it harder, i used a ball pein hammer and it works just fine a claw hammer should work too just hit that shit like a man lol

thats the best way. bang around the side of the hub where the ball joint enters the hole. you'll be surprised at how well it works

Umm did you take the c-clamp out first?

Go to autozone and rent a balljoint remover. 1-2-3 done. They're free to rent btw, you get deposit money back when you bring the tool back. I've used the balljoint remover/press a few different times, makes life easy.

Thank you all :bigthumbu. Buying the pickle fork remover was a waste of money. I ended up having to remove the strut and pivot the hub around to be able to properly hammer the ball joint. I had to use an oem tension rod (heavier than my hammer) and a regular claw hammer and a torch, then went Neanderthal on the bastard. In the end it popped out but damn was it a pain in the ass for something that should have been simple.
