bad day on the dyno

Ok well I have an s14 sr20. I recently put on a 60trim turbo an 550 inj. I went to tune today on the dyno an my first pull base run made 309, sencond run made 260, an third run made 250, going for 3rd pull thinkin it was the plugs we got new ones an when we start that car all you here is clacking from the head.

So that's the end of that. I towed it home an haven't started taking it apart yet. Does anyone know what could have happened? Maybe give me some thing to look into before I tear it apart.

I'm guess something gave from the abuse that motor has gone through. Idk how bad the previous owner has treated it. So I'm guessing wear an tear just gave out.

If anyone has an idea or something please post. Thanks.

What did you try to tune it with? I'm pretty sure everyone, including myself, told you not to do a half assed top mount set-up in your last thread where you were asking for help. I'm not surprised by your end result...

Well I tuned with the afc neo. I was told I would be fine doing so from jorge at jg, an moe said id be fine doing a tune on it. But w.e. just sucks, but that's always gonna happen when u buy a car that has a swap an u don't know what its been through.

Everything was done right, but I'm guessing worn part just gave when being pushed.

I know u guys helped out with ur opinions an I took each one into consideration, an that's why I waited till I got all my other stuff like injectors an crap. See as though at first I was gonna be on stock, an after most of u said just wait, I did.

So please no more negative comments. I just wanna know if anyone can give me a heads up on what could have happend, like maybe bent valve, messed up rocker or w.e.

An as for what my topmount setup was, its the treadstone cast manifold. 60 trim ball bearing turbonetics turbo, synapse waste gate, 3inch full exhaust with vband adapt.

sucks to hear it, start from the beginning, check coolant and oil, compression test

Yeah I know. Yeah ima start taking it apart to see what's up. An at least someone on here can actually say something with out having to bash on someone about something happeningto their car.

550's should have supported you through 300whp no problem (they are maxxed out around 350). did you have walbro fuel pump, bigger filter? did you upgrade your maf? rocker arm stoppers? there is a long list of things that should be beefed up when pushing 300+whp, not just injectors and turbo.

now just rebuild the entire motor if the damages arent catastrophic. all metal gaskets, head studs, rocker arm stoppers, might as well throw cams in while its torn apart (you can make same hp w/ lower boost when running cams). make sure your entire fuel system is up to par, i would reccomend an oil coiler and please have a larger than stock radiator, do it right and you will be thrilled with the results... you live and learn. good luck.

o and if you want 300+ reliable get a real tune. either JWT or enthalpy ecu tune...or stand alone but i dont think thats the road you would want to take...piggy backs are no good for pushing the limits of your setup.

this entire post is just IMO,so take it or leave it.

run a compression test 1st how high where they revving the engine? if you need help fixing it lmk i have some spare s14 sr head stuff

i thought s14 sr motors didnt need RAS ???

ummmm, they are pita to install with the VTC rocker cover, but i dont see why an s14 would need them any less than an s13 motor? they serve the same purpose...

i could be wrong.

Ok guys thankks a lot for the info. An yeah I wasn't using a ras, which I'm kicking myself for not getting. I had heard that they weren't needed unless reving over 7500rpms.

On the dyno the guy only took it 6400rpms which was the hp peak.

An ima take the valve cover an see what's up, an bill ima be in contact with u about those s14 parts.

An yeah like one of u said u live an learn.

Moe never said it was fine to tune on a afc!!! I would never tell anyone to use afc to tune. I told you that JG does that and to talk to him. I focus more on AEM/EMS, Greddy E-manage ultimate and chiping your stock computer. When you use the afc you will be forced to retard the timing therefore putting stress on the engine. Told you that to many times.

If you want me to look at the car and figure out what's wrong with it you can pm me your number and I will contact you.
Moe
