so im debating about getting this kit on ebay... http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/91-9...ptZMotorsQ5fCarQ5fTruckQ5fPartsQ5fAccessories
originally i wanted to get some clevite bearings and the rest of my gaskets and rings from discount, but the price on this kit is rediculus, and it offers either acl bearings or king bearings ( ive never heard of king but i heard the acls are pretty good) i honestly just wana get some of u guys opinions on this kit. (the gaskets alone at discount go for over 100)

most of those gaskets are not used, u use gray silicon. i wouldnt get this kit, because plan and simple its junk. most people dont no but u must use a Plastigage to measure ur bearing clearance, heres a good article to read about it http://www.ehow.com/how_2142943_use-plastigage-measure-clearances.html. and the other big thing to get is a good torque wrench, no not a brand new one from harbor freight i have seem them be off by -10 ft lbs on one bolt and another one be +5ft lbs. good tools make a big difference when building a "reliable" engine. do u know of a good machine shop? thats something that has been very hard to find lately. while ur doing this rebuild u should balance ur pistons and rods, very easy to do take a scale and find the rod that weight the least and make the rest wiegh the same to that one and same thing with the pistons. and before u start make sure u have a very i mean very clean room to do this if u have to do in on ur kitchen table u dont want a garage or the porch in the back and keep the motor cover unless ur doing something to it. and finally measure 10 time if u have to but dont just say oh that will be close enough. i have seen that to many time and the engine blows up and they blame the machine shop or part that failed when it was there own fault. and never rely on the machine shop to order u parts ull wait until feb 31.

lol yea i got u, but specifically im mainly looking to get some opinions on the brands on the bearings and piston rings. ive heard good things about the acl bearings, but havent heard anything about king bearings, or npr piston rings... but then again this is my first time rebuilding a motor and dont rele know much about brands

i dont know how ppl havent learned "you get what you pay for".. if you dont care about your car go the cheap way.. if you do.. then stop tryin to look for the cheapest way.. look for the "BEST" way ..theres a diff.

Its really not as hard as you guys make it seem lol if you know what your doing. I bought one of these full rebuild kits on ebay rod and main bearings gaskets pistons rings everything and i have had no problems 20,000 miles later and i lost count of how many events ive gone to not to mention i broke it in for 500 miles then drifted the next day at an event. So all im sain if you know what your doing and read up on what your buying an ebay kit may not be as bad as everyone makes it out to be. And plenty of people can vouch for my car.

yea, its hard not to be cheap wen u dont have money lol... but um i justy wana know if anyones heard of these brands outside of ebay?

just out of curiosity do u guys have the link to ur kit? im just looking at all my options rite now cuz i dont have a job and i dont think im gonna have enough money to buy legit bearings and rings and gaskets and shit... tryin to sell some stuff as we speak so i can make money for this ka

ohh thats a nice kit but half those things i dont need :( but for that money i could get all the parts at discount, thank tho... now that i look at it closesly the rings are the same brand as the kit i posted...

have you guys done a compression test on it recently? i would like to know how the rings are holding up, see if the compression is good....
