Why I will be boycotting D1GP, and you should too.

It's not even popular enough to be a fad. It hasn't blown up like street racing/import drag racing did.

Go to the street races in a big city back in the late 90s/early 2000s, then go to a local drift spot now. Tell me which one is more popular. There are probably like 50 people on this whole site that even drive.

Quit looking for reasons to hate. There are plenty of judged sports that are huge. It's not all about competitions. It's like skateboarding/snowboarding/surfing 99% of it is not competitions, and just for fun. So don't act like the fact that it's judged will be its downfall.

Also, Mikes mad.

fd is not televised, lol

yes it is... always has been. its on versus channel again this year like last. but the tv show has been poorly compiled. last years was good except a single event was spread over 2 shows... a week apart. what other race event during competition has a break for a week in a tv show, wtf.

to our defense, street racing any fucking 16yr old with a key to a car can go line up on the street and push down on his gas pedal on his moms auto Daewoo and race. it takes commitment and much more money to participate in drifting. even on a street drift budget, thats tires and shit weekly.

really i dont care. I just want to have more events that are awesome and fun. i dont care who is running it.

Mike, as your friend please do not get into this. It does not do anything for you or hurt them. The obviously have no idea what they are doing, but the also can not be stopped. They are a video production company who has only filmed drifting, yes it will be a clusterfuck and yes it will hurt real drifters maybe. will it look awesome on tv to a large crowd of non drifters yes, will it bring new sponsors in yes.

That is all... It can not be stopped, they do not care about event attendance dude, they already have the funds and profit. So just drive it for the cool tracks, or go to the event and cause havoc, that's my plan.

the reason import/street drag racing died is not because it was a 'fad'. It is because the cops started ruining peoples lives over it, and thats why our local drift spots are desolate as well.

exactly.

except surfing, skateboarding, snowboarding etc.. are legal to do outside of actual events, which makes it easier to create a fan base.

If i want to try to skateboard, i go buy one and practice out front of my house. Getting into drifting is actually quite an undertaking.

which brings another thought to go further off topic, we really need some 'drift clinics' where people can come drive a drift car with an instructor, to try it out without investing in car/mods/tires... because 99% of people will love drifting given the opportunity to try it, but 'startup' costs are a bit through the roof for a newfound hobby.

sry for the rant, mad bored watching game 6.

Yeah you can skateboard in your driveway and not get in trouble, but go skate street and see what happens. I used to be pretty deep into bmx, and I've been arrested a bunch because of it, and spent my share of nights in jail. The bmx industry is way bigger than drifting, and riding street ain't legal. It was also a "fad" and now it's huge. How else does stuff get popular?

FullAuto that is taking place this saturday is a drift clinic, with instructors. It is pricey at close to $200 (cheaper if you regged early).... but its more than just driving and has other bonuses.

FullAuto this saturday in st.Pete is a instructor w/driver type of event. you need your own car. if the event was going to have a car for you, the cost would go up. besides, Harri had a 'school car' to teach people with but like almost no one ever used it for that purpose.

What parks? Miami has M.I.A and that one all the way over in Kendall and thats it. This isn't Canada or something with free parks everywhere lol.

And yeah I also used to skate and would session gables/downtown/fiu etc at 2 a.m with my friends and shit like that, and you would always be wary of cops or whatever - but the fear of getting caught street drifting is a lot worse. Whenever I did it it was like 100% stress because you can get reaaally fucked up if an asshole cop catches you and decides to add a bunch of bullshit charges.
I got stopped by 3 troopers almost 2 months ago and havent done any drifting since then. I got off easy but now Im paranoid as fuck. If I was to skate again I would be weary but not as much. People tell you to leave and you just move to the next spot, you can't get caught drifting say "oops my bad" and go somewhere else :lolhittin
