Steering set up for drifting; Power steering, power rack with pump and everything removed, manual rack... Just wondering what you guys have used and prefer for drifting. Any experiences. I have a power rack just not connected and it varies a lot with the response depending on a lot of different factors. I don't have much experience drifting but could imagine this becoming a slight problem for some. Lmk what you think

a power rack needs power.
thats why its a power rack.

take your spindles. Cut where the tie rod goes. Take out a lot of material. weld back together. Turn your wheels abunch.

I agree with jason and pat that drift cars with P/S racks should have power. just recently found out Ryan Kado who is the points leader in NorCALs Thunderdrift and SoCals TopDrift series has no P/S in his S14 and just lots of caster and he kills it. I personally have a P/S Cooler, SS P/S line and run ATF instead of P/S fluid.

^ most toyota p/s systems use ATF, I would think it should be okay. yeah I much prefer power steering, but I never have tried a true manual rack only de powered p/s racks and those suck.

i love not having power steering when sliding your response is slower but it was easier to hold angle and extend in a heavy ass car (my opinion dont agree eat a dick). My favorite by far is manual rack though i loved my 86. I loved how smooth it was and nutetral the steering felt. With power steering i tend to correct to much cause of how easily the wheel turns. I like to have resistance in my steering

ATF stands for automatic transmission fluid, the only difference between that and power steering is the color they put red dye in the atf so its easy to notice leaks. But you can use it in pretty much all p/s systems.

I was just wondering what all you guys thought, I personally want to put a manual rack in mine if I could find one out of another s13 or just get the parts to fix mine as I got it with now p/s. Driving around is all right but I don't see it being a good option for drifting

P/S fluid and ATF is more or less the same thing (hydraulic fluid)

Angle mod, adjustable tie rod ends to adjust Bumpsteer, Beefy Inner tie rods, PWS cooler, urethane steering rack bushings, proper alignment and uber negative camber.
Oh an figure out how to delete ackerman.

That's pretty much all you need to do to a steering system for drifting IMO.

ATF is just auto transmission fluid go

no offense but you are correcting too much prolly cause you just need more seat time. Just need to get the feeling down then you won't have that issue as often.

But Some times I'm driving and have to transition with one hand on wheel and one on handbrake or shifting... I don't have the strongest arms so I need the power steerin to assist me.

there are, i do think, 50, possibly 60 threads on this stating exactly the same thing!!! why cant people search their question before asking it?

honestly it depends on the chassis cause i dont have that problem with my s14 but i did with my supra. I couldn't get the car to slide with power steering took it out and then i could slide it still not well but it was better but i do agree that i need more seat time problem is i switch chassis so much that its hard to learn a car. hopefully i will stay with this chassis and learn to drive it properly.

oh and i dont have a strength problem you know how big i am LMAO no homo

Manual rack, PS knuckles, URAS inner tie rods T3 outers, Supra intermediate shaft, Battle Version rack bushings, Quaife quick rack. Power steering can eat a dick. 2 turns = full lock
