A few intake manifold questions...

8/19 Update:
-Doesn't backfire into intake anymore ever since I messed with the dizzy a little--but still hesitates some and throttle response is stupid. To accelerate I have to really ease in on the throttle slowwwly, sometimes this doesnt work and it hesitates like mad until I reach about 2.7k rpms. [or I have to battle the damn pedal]
-Idle seems fine and the car fires up with no problems.
-It runs close-to-no-problems-but-not-exactly when its really warmed up. [runs awesome when up in speed...kinda]
-I'm thinking: fuel pump? fuel filter? bad ground? [tightened the ones near the rear of the engine by the firewall and the one by the fuel rail] moar dizzy timing? [working on getting a pro to do the dizzy]

Original question:
Round 3:

Got a new KA dropped in, but I can't get it to idle.. It starts, and does rev past 2.5k and all that good stuff but it just won't idle. Checked and double checked the dizzy. [Set to TDC by feeling compression in cyl 1 and lining up pulley, marked the housing on the dist and it checked out at the #1 position..],and tightened all my grounds like a mofo. TPS was also set on the running KA so I don't think I would need to adjust that..

I know my problem has to lie in my intake manifold gasket [since the thing is spilling water near the front of the block when I tried adding coolant], but just wanted to double-check anything else that may cause the engine not to idle. [I need to go out and buy smaller tools, my big wrenches won't fit in between the runners].. A question here would be: is it safe to use RTV on the intake gasket [brand new gasket] + superman torque on all the bolts?

Also, I didn't plug one of the vacc lines that I used on my old block--the one that leads to a valve that controls the vent-things in the runners [b/c Im using the s14 upper intake and it doesn't have em]---do I seal this off? The other lines that ARE connected are the brake booster, IACV, and FPR lines..

Thanks in advance.

check vaccum lines, seals, grounds, and maf ...one of those, my boy had the same problem "benarovi" is his name on here

hey if dont idle then u may need to put the s13 upper intake back with the butterflies..
i did the same thing on my first s14-s13 chassis engine swap...and it idled to high cause of the lack of the butterflies
check iacv...power....
and yes u can put rtv on ur intake mani gasket...if u dun want that shit to leak the make sure it sealed...
its always worked for me....
i did it on my sr20det with no intake leak.....
stop water leak make sure u got no vacum lewaks and then u can tell wat really goin on

So I found that the gasket was somehow put on backwards.:ugh:

Bolted it all back up, and it idled!... However---acceleration is very hesitant. I get on the gas and it lags, then accelerates lol.. More vacc leaks or wtf? How can I check exactly where it's coming from if it even is vacuum? I'm also using the SOHC throttle cable if that even matters.

put the upper intake on with the butterflies...
it would work fine if u have a 93+ecu...if its 91-92 it needs buterflies to have the contour control..
and check and double check 4 vac leaks..

sprayed carb cleaner all over the damn manifold, near vacuum lines, brake booster, injectors, along the gasket, etc, and no change in idle. hesitates on the lower end of the powerband and then picks up and pulls really hard---as if imitating boost lol.. Or I can ease in on the throttle and there's no hesitation, only when shifting between 1st, 2nd, and 3rd gear..

I guess I need to borrow someone's 93-94 ECU to be sure? [I'm not actually sure what year ECU I have myself] Really not up to pulling that shit out for the 243546540th time

like everyone else says make sure all ur vacuum lines are in or capped, also umm these some idle control thing that idk how it works but if u messed with that it might have something to do with it or since u said u messed with ur timing u might wanna double check that. i dont rele know much but all those things i imagine could have something to do with ur lack of power

A little update:
Drove around a bit today, it was pretty bad taking off [had someone honk at me lawls].. Noticed some backfire into the intake [distinctive pop through the tubing].. triple-checking the damn distributor, seems like I fail at timing the damn thing. But would this cause the whole hesitation issue?

the backfiring inthe intake i had that problem you gotta time that shit. get someone who is good as hell at timing. you can bend the valves or some shit if you keep riding it like that.
