I challenge that hypothesis. To me, it looks like he lifted for too long for the clip and transition. Dai Yoshihara did the same thing in the old PacRim S13 like 4 years ago, same spot. Lift for too long, ass comes around, and with the speed you carry at Irwindale, you go sliding for a while...
