Sell it...Best bang for your buck!

i have an rx7 now but i might sell it and buy myself an 86. just doing som research before i get myself into trouble with it

AE86 with an SR20 is great bang for the buck, and a great combo. 4AGZE with a turbo setup is great too. 1UZFE if you are crazy enough. I have plans for a monster swap for my car when I have the big bucks.

86 you can do so many swaps 4AGZE, IUZFE, 3SGTE, 7MGTE, 1JZ, SR20DET, RB20DET, small block V8 350 or 289/302. It depends on how much money you got and how much you love the car. With a car of that age you run into other problems like the milage on the chassis and not knowing how abused the car was. I'm running into that wall know with my supra. I pretty much have to replace every part on the car to keep it running. Boosting the stock motor is not a good idea. The stock motor is like 75 hp so you could with alot of boost get like 150. lol

86+SR20= skeet on my PC... get it and do that swap that way you'll be cool with the toyota and the nissan guys on the forum :)

i have to admit though... those gay f20c or whatever manny is swaping into his shit box isnt a bad motor and has been done a couple of times. i think though it might be easier with an sr becuase if i remeber corectly the oil pan is in the same orentation, i could be wrong. hopefully manny will chime in as he is probly going to know this subject well

the f and the sr oilpans are both sumped in the front , but the f20c has this deal where the sump like slopes back and is needed to be midfied or fab up a whole trannny tunnel....cuz god damn that tranny is a fat slut....ive been banging the tranny tunnel for like 2 weeks now.....its meant for the little baby t50...i seriously think an sr would be your best bet...motor is cheap....dont need any custom tranny or anything...f20c are expensive as shit....v8's are like a hasle just like the f20...if it was me....ca18 FOR SURE hands down

p.s. ......leave my shit box alone lol

He pretty much said a lot of what I was about to say. What do you plan on using this 86 for? I'll assume drifting since it is a drift site ;). Well, to honest don't even worry about the engine right now. Just get the engine running strong stock and keep it reliable. I would focus more on findng a good chasis and aftermarket suspension. A stock engine 86 with good aftermarket suspension and a good suspension tune is one of the funnest cars you'll ever drive(for the $ of course). You'll be driving at full throttle all the time, man its a lot of fun when your on the gas so hard your helmet hits the roof. You'll litterally be standing on the gas lol.

As for boosting a stock bluetop, well it better be one in good condition and some sort of manangement unit. I've seen plenty of stock bluetops boosted run in the 170-200whp(strong engine, management, good tune). You'll be surprised what the little 4ag can take. I can tell you right now 150-160whp in an 86 is very nice, makes it competitve for local events. There are tons of swaps for the 86 the most common would be 20v, 4agze and boost. Lately the F20c swap has been getting more popular(theres a complete engine and tranny mount kit out now), just need to find a good deal on the engine.

I can talk all day about the 86, if you need anything like where to find any parts or whatever just PM me. There are a few others on here who can also help. The parts for the 86 are not that hard to find, if you know where to look ;). After so many years being into the 86, tuning them, drifting them I like to think I have some decent knowledge and I'll always help out a fellow 86er.

PS Sorry for the long post, not many 86 related things on here lol.

^lol that took forever to read lol. You wont find anyone on this site that knows more about 86s then him. Hes right though drifting a 86 is never lift to the fullest. I have to stnad on the trottle in my pos too. lol Its got a great setup for steering and you have alot of steering angle. I personally would take a 86 over a fc anyday but im partual cause ive owned 2 of them.

but seriously, corolla with a sr.

ok heres the prob. my fc is haveing some probs idk y but it is. i really dont fell like going through the time and wasteing money on this car. its got a built motor. but wont run. sputters when i hit the gas all the way like a missfire. anyways i was talking to my buddy at work. (also a car guy) and ive always wanted an 86 sooo bad. so he told me to sell it and get one. i fell like my rx7 is gonna bite me in the ass so i want to get an 86.

im sorry for the nub questions but im not a toyota guy at all. im a honda boy at heart and i miss my hatch sooo bad but thieves are gay so w.e the sr20 swap, is there any custom fab needed??? i know an f20c swap is like 10k, way too much. if the sr20 donesnt require any fab how much would it cost also a 1jz?? i was kinda interested in that swap but idk how good it would be for that car. honestly i want the car for drfiting and more for racing since i race alot. used to my fwd and it has to be faster than my civic if im gonna waste ,money on it ( i cant get slower lol) in order for that to happen i would have to be be in the mid to low 12's region since i ran 12's in my civic but like 12.7. help me out guys im rellay considering this :)

o btw how much does a stock 86 weigh????

Some swaps on the 86 don't suit it for drifting since it can make the car front heavy. I will say to start off just keep it simple and just worry about keeping the car reliable and building driving skill. If your trying to tackle a big project to early you spend more time watching drifting than actually doing it.

PS Oh yeah the 86 is a very light car, that can be made a lot lighter once you take off some extra weight.

yea that was soemthing i didnt think about. being too nose heavy is bad. this car is difficult. its one way or no way lol but i love the car i wanna see one if anyone has one for sale or something

also i heard ppl putting the 22re into the car??? info on that please

I completely agree with what Redline03 said: worry about reliability.
Thats what im focused on with my AE86...then the boost will come.

Ive had bout 5 AE86s and ima tell you that Its a drivers car...its more about driver feedback than anything else.
Its very very light, lighter than the S2K, and almost has a 50/50 weight distribution (something like 47/53).
1 and 2J swaps are usually left to the drag guys... and requires a W or R series Supra tranny and Supra/Tacoma or a Ford 9" rear end.

I grew up in old school Toyota sh!t so its what I usually gravitate to...
U can swap the 22R, 3rz, 2/3TC, 3TGTE, 3Y-eu, 2TG etc etc... most of these engines have interchangeable parts and trannys (cams, pistons, heads, etc)
any of these old school motors are RWD obviously, relatively small in size and built bullet-proof. ToyotaFTW! haha
Right after my 4th AE86 GT-S (4AG) i finished the one i have now (SR5 AE86 w/ 1.8 3TC and Mikuni side-drafts)
So depending if u have an SR5 or GTS...the swaps differ..
GTS: EFI and SR5:carbed
So naturally the old school carbed toyota motors will be easier to swap in an SR5 AE86 than a GTS bc u wont have to swap fuel lines, brake lines, harness, etc etc...

U have MANY options BUT in the end... its all about personal preferance...

Any questions feel free....

Peace

so what motor does the 22r come from?? is it an easy swap like direct bolt. or is there ANY motor that goes right in. this is what i want to know since i cant do a custom fab swap right now. i LOVE the car. knowone knows y i want one except a couple of my shop buddies lol. they dont care for the car so knowone really knows too much about it exepct the f20c swap. i just want to know if there are any direct swap in motor. and how much power does the 22r have and what is the 3tc motor? and what car does it come from how much power and is it direct drop in motor? i need to know since imma pay about 1k for suspension mods so i need a motor that drirect swap and with a little punk to it

honestly if you want a bullet proof motor build a 22rec and boost it. You will not regret it. I boosted my 85 celica's 22rec and that thing fuckin flew. I used a small t3/t4 and got great low rpm boost from it and alot of torque. They are mad cheap and you can get alot of parts from a company called lc enginering.

22r comes out of a 82-85 celica and toyota tacomcas
