damn, i wanna go, but funds are a big issue... its gonna be like a last minute decision for me.
Kevin,
Thank you for taking the time to post here. I will be honest, I do feel that we are not getting our $100 worth even with your current offer. Allow me to share my points of view. My main concerns are the following:
1-) For $100, how much track time is 2 hours really? If we are allowed to run the track continuously using all of the turns in the track, then we will get two hours of track time because all the cars can run at the same time (Homestead-Miami Speedway definetly has enough room to run 10 cars spread out safely). Two hours of actual track time would be very worth it.
However, if we have to do it as we did last time, each driver will be staging for 10 minutes at a time for a run that lasts 30 seconds. By that math, we'll get only about 6 minutes of actual track time. That's not a lot considering we (speaking for the non-licensed NOPI drifters) pay the same or less, for more track time.
I also believe the main racers, who pay no more than $500 with a late fee, get at least 3-4 hours of track time in the entire weekend. And that is continuous track time. I know we are paying less, but if there is "dollar per seat time" ratio, I'd like the $100 that we're paying to be similar in relation to what the racers are. You guys slotted two hours for us to use on Saturday, I ask you to let us make full use of it.
2-) Another quick detail is the media coverage. Right now drifting is the biggest motorsport online. You can search for hits between drifting and any other racing series to compare. We're leagues away on YouTube from any other search (Nascar, Formula 1, etc). Tim has already managed to get a TV Station to do a feature on his events. Ter-Tech has a signed contract with OctaneTV, who is probably the biggest name in online drifting shows, to come and record their events. So if anything, the presence of drifting at your events would be a tool for you to bring more media to your event (which is what everyone wants, from spectators, to participants, and all the way to the organizers)
3-) Now I do appreciate the free set of tires offer. However, it still doesn't do much for us as I can vouch for any experienced drifter (licensed or not) that we have our own sources for tires, either used for a few bucks a pop, or even new, at a wholesale/discounted price. Some of the drivers you will find even have tire sponsors, and they would have no need or no way to collect the prize due to their contact with the tire company. I'm not trying to put down your offer of a prize, but it I am pretty sure there are many other things we would much rather see as drifters than a free set of tires. I don't think I'm alone to think that we much rather trade that free set of tires (which I'm assuming is not purchased yet so the drifter can choose the size of the tire depending on his or her application), for the continous track time with the ability for tandem driving. And that's only one suggestion. You must remember that you are running an event at the same date as another drift event, with a late notice compared to the other, both equally distant from Broward county (where most drifters seem to reside), and asking for the same amount of money. The licensed drifters already drift up there for free, and Moroso has a great track setup just as Homestead does. So in order to get the proper event attendance, we need something that makes it worth it for us to be there. Free tires are good, but there are other things that we much rather have than just that.
I do thank you for the opportunity for having us there, and for taking the time to hear us out. Hopefully we can show a bit of where we come from so you can have a better idea of what we value the most in order for you to be able to get the best event out there for your spectators and your drivers.
I look forward to what you can work out for us. Now if you'll excuse me, I'm late for a drift event.
- Erick
Did you even read what I said? I'm giving my opinion from a drifter's point of view on how to make the event better for all of us (and by all of us I mean both the organizers, the participants, AND the drifters).
And to better explain myself. Kevin was nice enough to post here and I'm assuming by doing so that he would at least be interested in what we would have to say. I have paid more in the past to get less in event track time, but that does not mean it should always be that way. My comments were my opinions on how to make a fun event for everyone: giving the drifters their time to put on the best show for the crowds to watch, which makes the crowd happy, furthermore making the event organizers happy that their event is such a success.
I even went out of my way to point out some quick research to prove a few of my points. I'm not trying to lie, or get the benefit out of something. If it's not clear by now, I expressed my opinion so that everyone wins. That's how professionals work.
You saying I cannot afford it is B/S. As a drifter you know well enough that we do what we must to get out there on the track, every-single-time. Calling me out on not having the cash to slide this event is beyond uncalled for.
On that note, check your PMs.
Someone should be nice enough to hook up good ole Rob here with a roll cage/roll bar.. lol... whoever is nice enough to do this, will get a hug from me and my sister's phone number.....
