ok so heres the issue. drove from coconut creek to boynton and car barely made it. would give it gas and it would wanna die. would go to roughly to 4k and die down. then i dropped the idle as much as i could. car ran fine but would still hickup a bit. head back to coconit creek. maf is a little dirty so i clean it with some maf cleaner and then let it dry for about an hour. raised idle back to original spot. car runs better but still hickups. now heading up to royal palm. get off at southern blvd and i get near the fair grounds when the car wants to just completely die when you give it gas. i took off some sort of vacuum container that was on stock intake earlier this week and plugged the hole. so i replaced the container. car runs a bit better. head down fairgrounds road and make it to bjs off 441. decide to look at the car. raised the idle some, car ran better. so i leave and head down 441. get about halfway to the end off 441 when it starts up again. shut off car, turn on hazards, and just cruised on the far right side. do that almost to a complete stop. turn car on. BAM!! runs like new. i haul ass down the rest of 441 and get near my buddies house when it starts again. drop him off and replaced maf with a known good one. car works better idles at 3k. ok drop down to 700. backfires through intake. raise idle again. car runs great. start heading home. 10mins in car hickups. take off from a light, car doesnt move. shut car off then turn on, everything ok again. so i do this off on routine every time car wants to die till i get home in delray. can anyone help me figure this out.

ps. i have a front mount interfooler for mock up on the car for when i do my swap. took the bumper off to allow for more air in case something was getting heat soaked. but it really didnt help

i had a similar problem.. i'd change the coolant temp sensor, check the injectors..

unplugged and replugged cts and tested both. car ran the same. wats the likely hood that the injectors would work then hickup and immediately work again after i cycle the ignition switch

oh forgot to mention every time car hickups or wants to die you can smell fuel.

Check the spark plugs to see if you are running lean. If that's the case you could have something in the fuel system. Injector failing, dirty fuel filter, bad fuel pump....... When was the last tune up?

Start from the beginning, check your plugs, move on to fuel, is your pump and filter good? Ecu sending pulses to all injectors? Fpr plugged up and working?

^^ lol you beat me by seconds

just recently changed the fuel filter. ill check the plugs when i get off work tomorrow. looks like ima have to drive moms exploder to work.

also thing that gets me is when it does wanna run right, itll rev straight up to the rev limiter. but if you do it full throttle it takes longer than normal. and if you rev it up let it drop down to about 4k and go wot itll hickup till about 5.5 and then rev the rest out to 8k fine. ( yes my ka has an 8k rev limiter on the stock ecu)

car has always had the 8k limiter since ive had it. ive had the car for almost a year now and its only in the last month that ive been having issues. and i would only take it to 8k when sliding and that wasnt for very long either. maybe a few seconds if that

i say fuel filter, dirty injectors or bad injectors... and/or fuel pump like said before me... check those.

when you turn it on do you hear the pump running right?

i say i had the same intermitant issue...it was the fuel pump power..since the 240sx has a fuel pump voltage control..if it goes funny u can change the maf clean the maf change coolant temp sensor ..knock sensor...um dizzy and it will not werk it will still break up funny sum where in the power band....if u could bring it to me i could check...i had mad crazy issues due to the fuel pump voltage..and i changed so much shit on my ka...i wanted to sell my 240...untill when it finnally wouldnt start and traced it to that wire..and all my issues stop but i blew that ka cause i could also rev to 8k.....auto ecus r awesome on ka's

check your spark plug wires (by check I mean swap them all out) they like to melt a little on the valve cover and it will cause stupid hesitations like you describe

and if your car is backfiring thru the intake your timing is way off lol 180degrees almost

if the timing was 180 the car wouldnt want to start no would it run fine when i start back up

I would bet fuel pump. See if you can get a hold of a pressure guage and test the fuel pressure when it hicups. If it is the pump, change the pump, CLEAN THE GAS TANK, and flush all the lines out so you start with a good clean system.
