Miata vs 240sx

You're all fan boys or fan boys in denial - deal with it.

The s-chassis is a better drift platform for a multitude of already posted reasons. If you plan on getting into drifting, its a great platform to start with. If being a drift fan boy and owning the drift fan boy's car of choice is too much to handle, get the Miata.

call me a fanboy but im 18 im still in highschool and im broke and its still hard for me to finish building my car i said i wanted the cheapest fastest car to drift, autox and i researched dem allll the s13 is simply the best and cheapest i had been after a s13 coupe sil front since 7th grade back then i had no clue bout drifting or how popular these cars were hence since in 7th grade nobody had a car lol

Don't worry. You could be the first person on this site to even know what drifting is and/or the potential of an s-chassis - it doesn't matter though. You'd still be a fan boy. We're all fan boys. If we weren't, we wouldn't be here.

I love people who call the KA torquey LOL, thats funny shit

a twin turbo charged V12 is toquey, diesels are torquey.

KA's are not torquey. its a freaking 4cyl.

Edit..... If you're G/F is blazing then we're gonna need proof. Pics or Ban!!!!

Ok I guess I get to chime in here....

First off If performance really counts then whether or not you look gay (Miata) or look like a fanboy bandwagoner (S13) won't mean anything.

S13 was my first car when I was 16, currently 23, and I've owned 4 of them and personally feel like it's the most competent platform to start with and maintain. I've owned and drifted an 86 and driven a few Miata's enough to beat up on them repeatedly.

The S13 chassis is more linear feeling to me because to the long wheelbase. It has more angle than a Miata but also weighs more. I feel that both cars lack in power department and need engine enhancements to truely be capable performers in the drifting/auto-x arena.

There are people who make the Miata work for drifting, but I feel with the lack of angle, short wheelbase, and size contraits on the width of the rear tire without overfenders it doesn't make it a likely choice. With everyone's budget in mind I think it's cheaper to mod the S13 into a capable machine for drifting.

If you were looking to mainly auto-x I would relent and say that a Miata is better than an S13. It's small and nimble and can seriously cut cones. If it's drifting you want, then I'd say S13.

+1

I like to have a bit of both (auto-x/drift) into one car. Cars are my hobbie. I'm not looking to go pro or w/e. I just simple fun. Besides , I had a e30 and it was an tank. Like I previously stated; My girl's stock s14 beat what it looked like a "street"( I/H/E, Rims, low stance, etc.) prepped Miata (NA) and won! I've driven the S14 many times but it seems to be more of a GT car compared to a sporty car like s13 and miata. I've also read that the s13 suffers a bit of understeer? I've only sat in both cars. The seats on the S13 suck!! The miata is more private though.

The S13's woes related to understeer can be fixed with relatively cheap suspension upgrades. So I wouldn't worry too much about that. As far as picking one you need to find the sport you'd be most happy with. If you auto-x more, Miata. If you want to drift more, S13.

Either car will need engine work eventually. The KA is much bigger than Miata, it's that simple. 2.4L to 1.5/6L. A moderately maintained KA is always going to romp a I/H/E Miata. Those pieces don't add that much horsepower. I wasn't suprised I could beat civics in mine while it was N/A, neither should you.

Put it this way. Most Honda's are 1.5/6L. A Miata is basically a marginally lighter Civic.

If you're worried about seats then your head is in the wrong place. Next to suspension enhancements a proper fixed back bucket will go a long way to enhancing your learning curve to super mad tyte jdm driver status. Seriously. You can't focus on a drift/auto-x while your worried about keeping your ass pinned to your seat. And 4pt. harnesses go only so far on a stock seat. Trust me I've done it.

As far as "sportyness" between the 13 and 14. IMHO the 14 has more body roll/chassis flex than the 13, but that is remedied wth expanding foam in the chassis. It's still (S14) a sporty car.

Hopefully that helps.

I'm more than likely gonna lead towards the S13 since there a large SFL community for 240s. I hope I can find a coupe w/o a digital guage though.

   I'd say any big block V8 is torquey. :D

Well for 4 cyl the KA is torquey! Especially for an old engine.

yea and a twin turbo v12 or diesel isnt torquey its got TORQUE. hence why we say torquey and regardless we (at least i ) refer to other cars in its age and class..you cant compare out of class on a stock to stock basis

1990's semi-sport under 25k(at the time)
civics
integras
miatas
among others

i dont think any1 including my self think that 240s are fast but running a 15.6 1/4mile in 1991 isnt bad considering integra GSRs(which is considered tuned) ran like a 15.4-15.5

anyways drive both but it will be cheaper (yes bandwagon)with a S chassis remeber what i first said if your drifting and/or broke...The junk yard will be your friend...hence Schassis
