wandering steering?

Driver
a while back i got an alignment done and it drives for the most part strait, but wen i go over bumps or make a right turn then straiten out , the front end kinda goes the opposite direction i guess? like the wheel is in a differnt spot then ill make a slight adjustment while driving(move over in the lane) and my car will want to slightly go left, im not realy sure if im explaining this very good, its like my steering is wandering? im not sure but i dont feel too safe, any ideas?

This isn't rude but how old are you.
How many cars have you daily driven?

A lot of cars do that. Maybe you can replace bushings to reduce it but its the norm.

Look up solid steering bushing. Looks like a coin with 4 holes.

Bro I just fixed that on mi old coupe.. I change the steering rack bushibgs.. jack the car up and have someone moved the wheel back and forth... You shouldn't see play left and right..

im 18.. ive had 2 cars, my 240 ive had for about 1.5 years, ive never seen a car do this, and yea i need to do more research on that steering column bushing, i know wat it is ive seen it before but im not too educated on it

yea i saw ur thread actually but never answered about the wandering, i did some research now that im home and im reading that it could be ball joints, i know i need steering rack bushings but that wander isnt those bushings, ill still replace them but its not those

Like. It's not a pull to one side. When the car is straight it drives straight.

Then when you move right then straighten out it tends to sway left?
Is this all correct?

yessir, it does pull slightly to the right bc my caster is off just a hair on the right side

my car still does that u have two main things to check ur inner tie rod and the bushings there $15 just change em its easy, save u in the long run. jack the car up and shake the wheel left and right if theres play its ur inner tie rod if not lay under the car and have a trusty friend turn ur steering wheel left and right ull see the rack moving...the bushings, also if u feel the car wonders to one side from the back ur sub frame bushings are bad.

Well to be extensive.. I changed everything as far as ball joints, Flca, and bushings. Car was really tight after wards.. you saw it at the skidpad right..

inners and outers are brand spankin new, and i have subframe collors if it makes any differnce lol i dont think its that tho, it does sway a little wen i let off the gas but the wandering doesnt have to do with the rear

welded diff? diffrent tire size or tire pressure will do this also

The "wandering" is called bump steer.

It can be caused by, bad bushings, bad ball joints, tension rods, just check everything in the front end.

Also, if you have stock rear arms/fucked up rear alignment it will bump steer really bad.

that might cause slight pull. but maybe not

yea its not the tires, tires havent given me this issue before

ive done some further research, it looks like its the ball joints..

if the rear toe is off it'll also sway like crazy... had this problem last time I replaced RUCA's... I ended up doing a garage floor alignment myself and problem left.

To check toe, get a measuring tape. Pick a spot on the tread that is easy to find. Measure the distance on the front side of the tire, then measure the distance on the back side of the tire... if these two numbers are different your toe setting is off!

Could be a lot of other things as well though.
