Why I will be boycotting D1GP, and you should too.

IMO, I love both series. But if I had to choose between the two, I would say D1. They look like they have sooo much fun and they drive harder than FD guys IMO.

Harri had a 'school car' to teach people with but like almost no one ever used it for that purpose.

I rented that thing! It was sweeeet!!! And it's what got me into drifting, I thought it was cool n all before I did it, but doing it in a car that was kinda built for it made me have a wholeee different POV. That thing had so much bump steer! lol

First off im gonna have to say is Mike I respect you as a driver and a voice in the drift community. But I agree with Juan and any one else who is die hard into drifting. I for one have been into drifting since 2001 and I started actually drifting in 02 do you know how I found out and got into drifting? I downloaded d1 videos off the internet via lime wire before youtube. I flew out to cali in 03 with Harri to watch the first domestic pro drifting championship. Thats right FIRST and I quote "With a sellout crowd of ten thousand, which broke record for the venue and the series, this venue became the series' opening round in 2004 and has since been expanded to capacities fifteen thousand spectators". So they were in america first that is a no brainier. So don't you think they have the right to run there series as they see fit as well as how they promote it. THEY GAVE US THE SPORT FOR GODS SAKES!!! The comparative chart on wrecked mag is far from fictional the only argument that formula D has is D1s dvd sales and the fact that all of formula Ds TV series have sucked ass and did get canceled. Mud bog racing is more fun to watch than a formula D broadcast that's why they have never been able to go prime time. Until the drift king himself walks into my shop and slashes my tires and kick me in the balls I will continue to support this sports founding fathers. No driver that's driving in America today has the legendary status in the sport as the OG D1 drivers when I flew out to see D1 vs Japan in 04 the us drivers were even getting there autographs. What this all boils down too is America got thrown a bone and now they want to act like they invented the damn sport. People need to stop crying about how much money D1 is making charging and using and look at the fact that without them there would be no drifting. I for one pray this series makes it cause ever since D1 left and gave the rains to FD drifting has sucked. Its almost imposable to get a FD license at least at D1 you show up qualify and drive with the best. Id rather pay a little fee into one of the top drifting organizations than suck DAs dicks and drift in pro am for 5 years to prove myself. The facts are is that both series have there hick ups and no series wont. Why? Because drifting is a judged sport and with that comes a lot of politics. So my vote is and always will be with D1. I'm not bashing you mike or anyone who sees his point of view this is just mine so lets all get along and push the sport forward. If we should boycott anyone it should be wrecked for biting the hand that feeds it.

D1JP is awesome, its rad, I've had the pleasure of spectating 2 of the events here in the US. For the most part I agree with your post in reference to D1jp.

All "D1"USA 2010 is is someone who paid to use the name, that is not associated with D1JP in any way/fashion/form. They aren't drifting people, they have already burned several of my friends, (including Chealsea) and they just aren't good for the sport

If it was D1JP behind this I'd be all about it, but it isnt..

I want to drive just as much as all of you, but unfortunately sometimes you gotta draw a line in the sand and even though it may be fun, the overall actions of these people really shouldn't be put up with. They haven't booked the venues, they have no rulebook, they claim the 1st rulebook will be out 1 month before the 1st event, and they expect people won't be able to adhere to it, and they will fail them. They will have (and this is directly from their mouth) at most 6 "Japanese drivers". This is the same company that has sent Mike Pollard, Sam, Forrest Wang, and some other no-names I can't even remember to Japan as "America's top drifters." I can only imagine what kind of mid-grade nonames we'll get from over there that are somewhat known in Japan, but nobody in North America will have a clue who they are. They are advertising 140 car counts, and that they will be able to give the 140 cars two hours for practice/qualifying to get it down to 32. If that last sentence I just typed isn't a good enough example of how retarted these people are I don't know what to say.

Again if it was D1JP I'd be all about this. Instead its some noname movie production company who lied to the people putting D1 together last year about the Fox deal, they cut bait, and now they bought the rights to d1 and are still lying to everyone.

It's lame, and really just bad for the sport in general.

I understand where your coming from mike but all the stuff your saying about TV deals and sponsor commitments and booking track locations. Has nothing to do with us the grassroots drifters. The only people who should be pissed is Formula D insiders. I don't know if you work for formula D but I know I don't as well as 90-100% of the people on this forum. If they want to bash formula d and use dirty tactics to get competitive with them good who gives a hoot. I don't all I see are more drift events more exposer for the sport good or bad (the old adage there's no such thing as bad publicity) as well as a pro level event finally coming back to florida. I'm not counting nopi BTW that was a joke. So its been since 04 that D1 graced us with there presence LOST over $150,000 on the event because they got scammed by the marketing company falken as well. They finally come back and you think were all gonna boycott them? We should be embracing them with open arms Formula D dose not want any thing to do with us, pro am dose not XDC dose nott but D1 dose. If there is some foul play going on with this movie production company that bought the rites than that's who we need to boycott not D1. I for one don't like formula D there rules are imposable to please at a privateer level as well as there constant do as I say not as I do mentality. Tanner foust can drift an ABOMINATION around the track but Takatori gets fined an extra $300 bucks every event cause he is running spindles from a different year skyline. GIVE ME A BREAK. All this boils down to is everyone at this point is being forced with having to pick a side JDM or USA events. If we started to pick formula D apart I garonte you will find just as much if not more bullshit that goes on in that series. Ill give you one example back in 05-06 I remember me and harri as well as others in the Ter-Tech clan went to Texas to try to get our FD license when we got there we were welcomed not by texas drivers but drift day cali boys all of witch sucked and all got provisionals. Harri had the fastest entry speed of the day on top of hitting every clip perfect. They dident give him a license because his car wasn't low enough. You think that's fair? I agree with you that they are writing a lot of checks that they cant cash but the simple fact of the matter is D1 is and always will be a bigger name in drifting than Formula D AKA Cali club. My vote is still with D1 simply I can show up to the track at 7 practice at 9 qualify at noon and be tandoming against nomuken at 3. Theirs no better day behind the wheel of a drift car than that my friend.

Irrelevant to FD, the point I think you're missing with "D1"usa is that they are scamming anyone that gets involved with them, which is bad for drifting, and the growth of drifting.

Will it cause any setback that can't be overcome? *chuckles* no.

Will it cause setbacks that will take time to overcome? *sigh* unfortunately, yes.

I think the opportunity we have, is as drivers, boycott it. No drivers=no event. This is 'Merica, and I wish we'd use our ability to do what we want, and what we don't want. Just because they throw an event in a location that nobody else does that is available to tier 2-3 drivers, doesn't mean those drivers should compete in them.

If Mike/Mark Meyers threw an event again, I'd hope you'd see how big of retards they are and not support their events either.

The wrecked view is pretty damn biased. You can read it in everything the guy says, some of it didn't even go with what D1GP said. Talks about DVD's and brings up internet streams to put down D1, its biased both ways but I mean cmon this is pretty obvious. And drift box so what? Really?
