my take on drifting in south florida

Driver
i like everyone else started drifting in parking lots .i like everyone else strated drifting in a 240( i destroyed three 240 before i finally built a good drift car).i met alot of the original sfldrifters at the triangle (i destroyed a car there)i felt like the fire hydrent needed a little bit of angle.the first event i was ever invited to was a warehouse in lauderdale ( i blew a head gasket there) my first real grass roots event was ter-tech at wpb county fairgrounds ( i destroyed a motor and a clutch there)
it was different then everybody knew everybody.everybody shook everybodys hands ,evrybody was dirty and smelt like cars(that hasnt changed to much) it was fun, it was underground!
then along came tim with a vision .to organize south florida underground street drifting into a grassroots movement( he didnt even have an fr car at the time) then come countyline.
i missed the first few events (i sold my 240 and built the z) my z was never for 1 day ment to be a daily driver it was my toy my track toy .i finally make it to the third drift sessions everybody was cool everybody shook everybodys hand.
i was hooked it took six runs before i finally nailed 1st left but i was hooked.so i bought a truck and a trailer and tires lots of tires! drift sessions was once a month i found myself doing hit and runs at my secret pots all weekend long.(damn topgear is on i should really finish this later)
but ill forget
so then the big events start popping up and places start getting packed hours early with beat up junk rat rod 240s hundreds of em like roaches(some even resembled roaches) events are full of emo kids(no offence emo kids i love hawethorne frieghts and panic with the homo) things were changing and quick everybody is a drifter especially if you had an integra. (damn i just got distracted by eric bana in a resonably priced car)147.5 around the top gear test track not bad in the rain,,
anyway in the begining we all complained about no where to drift.then guys like tim ,bladder, harri and whoever else stick there ass in the air and get us drift events almost weekley at the very least bi weekley... now no body shows to events and everybodys complaining about how expensive it is. so we are losing our drift events... the price of drifiting hasnt changed we started drifting more frequently .if you cant afford to drift dont atleast spectate because guess what spectating is half the sport. there would be no formula d without spectators .
i think what the south florida scene needs it to take a step back and reflect
stop hating one another ( its a really big thing in south florida)and help one another you all drive 240s if you have a part share a part good example(i gave kp drilled and slotted rotors and pfc pads free when i upgraded to bbk)
yes free cost sharing goes along way! mostly clear your head of all the bullshit we are all on this forum and at events for 1 reason we love drifting

That is one thing I noticed. People on this forum love to talk trash (only online) stop hating on one another for real time to grow up

Ok ok ok I'll stop being a dick head:D

on a real note, Veterans think their the shit and are the ones who usually start shit IMHO.

to me its all bout havin fun dont matter where or when kickin it out always puts a smile on my face even if i mess up or rip it to me its all good if im having fun.

The sport will die if drifters dont work together. Especially with how small it is. I think the scene is smaller now than in 2004-05. That was when it was booming down here.

i think back about the fire hydrent night (that would have destroyed my z) my 240 we un bolted the hood and kept drifting ...did anybody notice how mad my g/f was she drove all theway down there just to bitch at me for wrecking my piece of shit 240

things are not going to change if people around here dont stop saying THE SAME SHIT
"im not gonna come to the skidpad and make a fool of myself". that is the dumbest thing i have ever heard. i've only been around 4 years along with a nice group of guys here and WE didnt have countyline skidpad back then, we had to drive all the way to WPB and even then it wasnt frequent at all. people need to take advantage of all the resources they have at their disposal now, cause alot of us didnt start with all this, and the older guys started with even less. im hurting for cash, but im still getting the car ready to come out within the next couple weeks.

on a real note, Veterans think their the shit and are the ones who usually start shit IMHO.

careful where you point your giant wand of generlizations.

talking shit by random spectators shouldnt really be an issue because no matter how good you are, people will hate anyways- look at top drifters, top nascar, top ANYSPORT, people hate because its easy.

if a driver is a hater well they obviously have issues since NO ONE just fell into a car and starting sliding at 100mph. i dont care who it is, they all started small too.

dont focus on these guys, and if you are one, stop being a doucher. if everyone worried about their own personal contributions instead of what they can complain about, there wouldn't be anything to complain about lol.

i havent had my face in this forum very long but i've been around drifting for about 4 years
i started out with a black coupe, i never drifted at an event cuz i was young dumb and broke. so i did alot of street sliding.. i was actually considered the DK of my graduating class:bigthumbu (serious shit..) almost got arrested once.. thats pretty much when i quit doing that. then i decided i want to be a cop, so now im doing my best to not even get a ticket. i know that without spectators the events wont last. like you said, if you cant afford to slide at least come out and support the sport. i hope the drift scene grows in south florida, i'd go crazy with out it. and im pretty sure in 15 years i'll still have a 240 built for drifting sittin in my garage. preferrably a coupe.

theres lots of vintage racing going on in club racing ant alot of 35 yr old cars in scca its possible with lots of money to keep the car running

i hate to say it but the vintage you know today is going to be a better quality factory build than the 240s are... its ALREADY hard to find clean ones... in 15 years... itll be impossible.

ya i totally back you guys up on this, i feel like everything in central Florida has died as well, partly due to a few of the "leaders" getting out of the game but i just feel like things die out cause no one tries, i remember meeting up at restaurants and then going to street slide till 2am and it was usually the highlight of my week and it was the most relaxing just chilling with cars sliding everywhere and just talking with friends, like it's an atmosphere more often then i feel it's a legitimate sport. once my car is running im doing everything i can to start up some more meets in the orlando area. It was really cool seeing that video of Simply Clean cause that's like 15 minutes from mic casa so it really pumped me up to just have a group out there to meet.

keep it simple, keep it creative

nicely put. this thread was bound to come. I've been on this forum about 6 months and its all negativity and hate. Some of the people on here posting agreeing with you are the ones flaming so to say. I usually just read this forum and post rarely because of the stupidity and the lack of matureness ( is that a word? lol)
