Hello everyone,

here just got back to South Florida and been very busy lately, came back to check out the sfldrifters website awesome i can see the community has increase alot.

Yeah since i sold most of my rides for autoX/autocross, im starting to jump on a car project for drifting now my budget will be no more than 4k usd.

so First i wanna choose what car will be a great for me to start learning drifting, i wanna get a good strong solid bottom car to learn getting experience and work my way up for drifting.

so far, i know 4k usd isnt enough to buy a car ready for drift but at least i wanna get a car to start changing and upgrading the car performance little by little till its pretty much ready to hit the road and tackle some corners and turns.

What Car make and model will be good for noobies to learn drifting, here is a list of cars that im thinking to find and purchase 1:

1. Toyota 1985-1987 Corolla Gts or SR5, but i think best GT-S style preference " Hatchback Style " if not i will have to take the Coupe one :( .

2. Nissan 240SX 1989-1991, style preference "Hatchback style" if not i will have to take the Coupe one :(

3. Mazda Miata, i heard is an awesome car for drifting the Miata dont know much info what best year will be, but i heard the tackle pretty good in the corners sliding sideways.. dont know much info about it. but for Miata Lovers explaint me if its a good car to start or expensive as fvk ><!

Well.. my most weapon of choice to start fresh drifting i think i will have to pick the Toyota Corolla GTS AE86 hatch. swap the engine for a 20V. 4AGE Motor Blcktop AE111 (11.1x1 Compression Ratio.) w/ dual Carb Webers .

Im tired of Turbo upgrades i wanna have a good nice aspirated motor non turbo with a strong power like 250hp+ on the wheels and a nice lightweight car like the Corolla Gts 85-87.

my choice is that i wanna go for NO turbo class car cuz i will be spending alot of $$$ if i go turbo , i just wanna go non turbo with nice high compression Ratio like the AE111 black top 20v. 4age with dual Carb Webers on a nice Corollita 85-87 5spd hatch.

Still i wanna know my good options i wanna start smart and not spending crazy mad money to obtain a badazz car with poor bad drifting, i wanna get my feet wet on a nice cheap low maintenance car class not go too crazy till ofc i gain more experience on my drifting driving.

4k usd so far to buy a good car or cheap car with blow motor :D and buy straight up a 20v 4age motor black top , new tires, brakes, shocks and clutch.

so Let me know guys what car is best to start training for drifting should i go Corolla and work my way up for a better car till i gain full experiences of how to control and drift .

p.s. I dont wanna go Turbo at all. only full aspirated motor only.

You ask for the type of car you should buy yet you're so convinced in buying a Corolla already. Sounds more like you're looking for a shell than advice.

Seriously, what are you hoping to accomplish on this thread?

BTW I DID READ IT.....BUT I CAN'T TELL U ANYWAY TO MAKE 250HP ALL MOTOR FOR 4K INCLUDING SHELL MAYBE SOMEBODY ELSE CAN

ok youre gonna get bashed a little im sure but atleast you seemed to have done your homework some. any of those choices are fine for a drift car but here is what YOU need to decide:

1) do i want to be more original (choosing a less used chassis)
a> this leads to figuring things out sometimes since not many have gone before you
b> less aftermarket support as well maybe
2) do i want something that is proven yet, overdone?
a> 240sx is shown to be a great learning and competitive car for new people/on a budget

I would suggest learning on a non-turbo slow car because it will help you learn technique first. otherwise you learn how to spin tires but it hard to catch the slide. overtime you might find yourself getting to the point where you NEED more power or you cant do certain things. don't be fooled tho, stock motor in the 240 can do A LOT more than most people think.

Really its a personal decision, any of those cars can be drive well as long as you put in the proper learning time and keep the car in good working order with a few upgrades (suspension) and tire setup (nice fronts, anything in the rear). Learn how wide to run the front in combination with what works well in rear, tire pressure +/- in the front or the rear can make a HUGE difference. Learn how to make your car adapt to your driving style, then learn how to drive better and you'll see your settings start to change some.

I say bandwagon it up and goto a 240sx, corollas are harder to find and i've heard harder to drive due to the short (snappy/quick rotation in transitions and initiations) wheel base, but have never had the priveledge to try one.

There are a number of good cars that are cheap and useable, pick one that you like to look at and that you want to drive, even if its harder to do. Otherwise itll be less fun.

/my 2.5 cents

So you want 250 whp out of a N/A 20v? Not gonna happen. The most powerful N/A 4AG I have ever seen makes about 230 whp, and it's super expensive. I say a stock AE111 20v on some NOS (only used to achieve higher entry speeds, not mid drift), and you'll be good to go.

porn* you're back,,,whats up...hey my advice to you buy a stock car 240 or corolla, lot of options out there and build from the ground up, once you learn your car then you can ad power and fancy things of that nature,,, read my project car magazine thread or the actual magazine, if you are reallyyy set on buying a daily drifter

save another 1kusd and buy my 240fastback with yucky turbo motor and drift xtreme suspension.

glad to see you're back.. want your blue car hatch back? lol

I got a 1983 Corolla SR-5 thats RWD and stick but its not the hatchback and ill give that to you cheap. prolly less than a grand... runs and all... lemme know if your interested and you could come check it out sometime. It kinda sits there doing nothing but it starts up and runs fine. needs body work and a loving owner...Maybe a miracle too..j/k:laugh:

yeah, i was also thinking about the 240sx s13 hatch since its not very difficult to obtain aftermarket parts for replace or upgrade as well.

I was looking around in some miata's pretty small car but not very sure about their ability or capable to do in drifting.

Last Weekend I saw 86 corolla gts 5spd blue hatch parked in home depot 3x cars next to me by looking at it i wanna to buy big time, good shell , driveable, inside dashboard was cracked but np i guess. the owner of that Car its a very old man white dude, i gave him my number to call me if it was interested in selling his car. he is 2nd owner of the car told me he got the car when it had no more than 18k miles . waiting for him to call me and see if i can have a drive test and look at it with much better details.

Mean while im still looking around for a daily drift noobie car :) , so far best 2 car of choice will be probably toyota corolla 85-87 gts or a S13 240sx.

Im also still trying to gain some info about the Mazda Miata how is capable to do drifting. but damm those cars are pretty expensive not very affordable like the 240sx s13 or the rolla ae86 gts.

I will keep hunting .

Hello Ricky how you doing, yeah i saw the magazine very impressive love it :D , yeahh 240 s13 or go rolla gts .. . 240sx it seems better way to go i believe since is not too hard to find spare parts or upgrade .

i wanna find more detail info about the 240sx s13 vs the rolla gts ae86.

Looking forward if anyone has ever drift experience better with the 240sx or the ae86.

save another 1kusd and buy my 240fastback with yucky turbo motor and drift xtreme suspension.

Hey Man, sup sup ...

wah.. dont tell me you still have the S13 89 hatch you got from me no way!!!!! ><!

you still have it damm if yes, damm i might probably be interested dont tell me about the price yet (dont chase me away  ) but i still wanna take a look of the car any recent pictures or a good day and time for me to come over and see the car personally to see how it sounds and runs. Im looking around for an s13 or ae86, but if you still have the s13 let me know . wanna take a pic/look OJO at it. dammm i loved that sexy blue s13 :D

yeah i had an 1980 boxie rolla 1.8 motor 4 speed 3TC motor , RWD as well coupe. amazing super light box car but very hard to find replacement parts.

man :( i remember it took me near 2 months to find me a good rear tail light cuz some azzhole hit me on the back ><! well damage it was bad in the body but the taillight oh man it took me near 2 months to find 1 in good shape. but still 2 months dat was crazy so thank god i sold it right away cuz i had a friend he crash his car same model but it was 81 and he fully crash his corolla and he need it alot of parts and he bought my car as is :D .

car was amazing nice good looking strong 3tc motor 1.8L. but too much headaches and time to find parts for that car. :(

Im also thinking about the AE86 Corolla 85-87 probably is gonna be a pain on the ass to find spare or aftermarket parts for that car :( specially that i like it alot cannt take it i guess, i guess i dont wanna spend enormous hours in finding 1 noobie part and pay mad $$$ for it as well.

im like i think 75% go S13 240sx - 25% go ae86 corolla gts.

miatas are not very powerful and are expensive yes. they are great for autox though, and for picking up dudes.... if your into that :gayfight: haha

get a 240 in decent condition with a DOHC KA then get coil-overs and a welded diff. Youll still have like a grand left for other shit. Get a good clutch, intake, header, exhuast, racing seat and harness. Maybe some other cheap shit like strut tower bars and make a power brace. Upgrading the brakes is also a good idea. Also very important is good front tires other wise your gonna understeer into a wall
